Hi, I need help and advise from all you dobbin boffins.I have a jtd cargo 2004 that starts fine from cold but once warm takes about 6 goes ,the engine doesnt turn but the starter whizzes round real quick then stops and you have to try again, its like theres a tooth missing on the fly wheel but surely it would do it cold also.Tried reving engine before switching off incase its fuel starvation but didnt work, could it be a sensor that packs in when warm?any advice will be greatly accepted and used .
With Regards Mr B

Hi, I think the solenoid on the starter motor is not firing far enough when warm so its missing the ring gear on the flywheel, it might be due to when warm its expanding a bit and the solenoid is jamming. I don't think its a sensor. On the jtd engine its at the back of the engine above the alternator. I know you have to take the drive shaft off to get the alternator out so would assume you would need to do this for the starter motor as well.
Regards Geoff

Yeah definitely something wrong with the solenoid, its job is to move the gear on the starter motor into engagement with the teeth on the flywheel and then apply power to the starter motor. Check that the starter motor is not loose, also check the connectors on the solenoid are clean. Check the engine block earth.
