This isn't just a gripe about the bar but more a warning to be aware that if you do buy one of these you'll need to do some work to make it fit

Though very cheap the bracket appears strong although rather roughly made. I guess you get what you pay for as their jig must have the pick up points but not much indication of the clearances needed to get them to line up :bang:

In short it needs about 15-30 minutes with an angle grinder to trim back some over length tabs and increase the cutout on the underfloor brackets and some welting with a hammer to get the tabs and brackets to line up. Once its on you can't really fault it and I'm really looking forward to reversing into something with it. :D

I didn't just choose this because I'm a cheap skate but mainly because it has a necked hitch which can be removed with 5 mins spanner work if you fed up banging your shins (y)

Rich,

Once we realised we couldn't get Broom Yellow orange was the only colour for us! The dealers don't stock them but several said, after I ordered, 'oh we've sold a few that colour but we always have to order them specially' go figure - if they had brains they'd be mending cars not selling them ;)

Hellcat,
A lot of people might make a very nice removeable towbar and another lot of people might make ones which are cheap... I bought a cheap one which was removeable. The bar was £45 from eBay so, as I said, I should have expected some grief... but there was no point keeping it to myself!

That's funny, I wanted yellow too but they seemed to stop that colour when they brought out the facelift model, which is why I went for samba orange. I had to specially order it too. I think it took about 10 weeks. At first they said it would take alot longer and they advised me to have another colour so I changed the order to light blue, then they phoned and said there's an orange one just rolling off the production line and it would arrive quicker than the blue one. Don't these salesmen drive you nuts? So I got the colour I wanted in the end.

I bought one of these bars a few weeks ago, I had no problems in fitting it all lined up nicely. How have you wired your electircs up?

Dixon bate are highly regarded in the commercial vehicle and 4x4 sectors, they offer high quality adjustable towbars, and revolutionised the shocklink...

Seems strange their offering for the Doblo should be so bad! :)

Is yours a Mark1 Doblo? I'm sure the bar must have fitted something to start with but wasn't going to fit my '06.

My run of luck continued with the electrics. I bought a kit from Ryder towbars and followed their instructions...

When they say the loom is accessible behind the O/S trim they should have said N/S... :bang: So I put in a cross car wire to pick up from the N/S wiring. I was very pleased that the rear lights are just normal and the tow connector is just T 'd in. The bulb failure detect puts 10V on the wires most of the time but the 12V on state was clear for checking connections. (y)

The screwed instructions extended to the wire colouring too... When I've got more time I'll correct the wiring to the N/S and remove the cross wire. :)
