Hi All

I am presently in the throws of 'spicing up' my 20vt in the hope that i can take my newly improved coop for an occasional track day.:p

Could anyone please advise me as to which is the best performing road tyre i can get for the car (money no object) from the list below:-

1. Michelin Pilot Sport
2. Yokohoma AVS Sport
3. Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico
4. Falken F-451
5. Goodyear Eagle F1

Respondees should ideally have some practical experience of at least some if not all of the tyres (e.g. track days etc) mentioned above.

Also, could respondees please categorise the above list for WET & DRY conditions. Thanks.

Regards

Pirelli's are the which fiat fitted most, This is a great tyre and grips well but it is soft compound and wears quickly. Michelin are a goood all rounder but expensive. The other i really dont know. Yoko And Falkens are usually the budget tyres for these rims. O.k for suitable driving. Goodyears ???

Hi there,

I only had experience of three on my 20VT, so I'll put those into order (best first):

Falken FK-451
Pirelli P-Zero Assimetrico
Goodyear Eagle F1

The Falken may be a budget tyre in that they cost nearly half of the Pzeros but they certainly don't perform like a budget tyre. Dry grip is as good as the Pirellis and wet grip is easily superior. I guarantee you will not be dissapointed with these tyres. I have heard some criticism that they can be a bit noisy but this seems to be particular to the 225 fitment. I had 205 on mine and didn't notice any increase in road noise. For the money they really are exceptional.

I won't coment on the Pzeros as I'm sure you are aware they are std fit and you probably have your own oppinions.

The F1's are also a good tyre in the dry but not as good when things get damp. I also had a strange wear problem on one of my tires on the outside edge which never showed up on subsequent tyres (pressure was fine). I once saw these on sale for £82 ech and at that price I woul place them above the Pzero but if you can get Pzero for around the same price i think the Pirellis would just edge it. The F1's also didn't last as long as either of the other two.
