Hello!

I'm doing a Coupe 16v turbo engine conversion and have located a suitable donar car. Currently though I am torn between getting the whole vehicle or removing the parts I require.

Anyway I'm here to present a question on the engine loom.

Can the engine loom function without the body loom from within the rest of the car?

I.e - Is there a big multi-plug that connects a few items such as the rev counter, oil pressure light etc from the engine loom into the body loom. Or does the body loom contain other ECU's and items that the engine loom cannot function without aka it has a networked loom.

Hope that made sense to someone out there!

Cheers,

Alex

Your not getting a response cuz its such a tricky question.

It may start but may not run proply but that is a kind of question that needs a quified mecanic to answer.

Yeah it seems to me (massive generalization here) that not many Coupé owners actually work on their cars and there is little knowledge available. Either that or they are very secretive! haha

Cheers anyway :)

People do work on there coupes, i do but that noty the sort of question anyone can answer.

Infact the best question iv heard in ages.

Try asking motermech, trouble is your no were near brum.

You could always fone him...

I've been reading a few threads and projects on the 2.0 16v conversion into Punto's and Bravo's, and I'm pretty certain of the answer now anyway.

I don't think the Coupe is late enough in Fiat developments to have a networked loom, think they start 2002 onwards which makes life a little and easier as I can transplant the engine loom into the Panda engine bay as per the previous conversion to a Punto engine.

Have some patients ;)

Try and download the workshop manual for the 16vt you will need it, it has lots of great wiring diagrams. That ECU does not use a can bus system and my manual does not show a fiat code immobiliser nor is there a input for a fiat code immobiliser on that ECU.

coupe 16vt's do have an immobiliser and it is harder to bypass than the 20 vt models.

have you actually measured a 16 vt engine and gearbox?

No yea, a tiny light litle panda witha 2 liter 16v turbo engine.

Should be more than intresting!

Not as awesome as me. I did 11 hours last night. Feeling as fresh a daisy today!

hahahaha I must admit I almost choked on my toast at that one:)

I've already done a Punto 16v conversion to the Panda which has made it quite nippy with 0-60 in 8 seconds, but I've become bored of the power and need something more insane.

The plan is to buy a Coupe 16vt for around £800 transplant the Coupe engine, gearbox, engine bay loom, gearchange mechanism and possibly the brakes if they transfer across. Then sell the interior and panels etc to offset the cost of the car.

I also want to stage one tune the engine - so a good clean along with a FMIC, chip, blow off valve, nice cold air induction and a side exit exhaust should take power to 250+ and 0-60 in stupidly low figures.

As for the measuring I'm doing it today. I've seen the engine in a Punto bay and it didn't look too impossible seeing as the Panda bay is a little smaller than a Punto.

My main concerns after it fitting without massive cutting and sawing are making the mounts for the engine and gearbox, and then how/where I'm going to place the radiators and IC to keep the whole thing cool enough!

Iv always liked cars that wernt built for race/all out speed with more powerful engine and turbo.

as for your 0-60 time, it will be very low figers, not just that but id of thought you will get a very high top speed.

il have to keep my eye on this project.

Hi, I just spotted this thread. Sounds like you have an awesome car in the making.

In answer to your question:
No the Coupe does not have a networked loom - Good ol' fashioned one-wire-for-one-thing! Your ecu will almost certainly have an immobiliser, which will need the original key and and code box hidden somewhere in the dash. However I can help you out there...

PM'd

Cheers KJ :)

I've got your details etc tucked away for when its done.

Can you tell me a little bit more about tuning the 16v then? I would carry on PM'ing you, but it takes ages and this is probably better for other people to read.

I've read the appropriate guides on stage 1 & 2 tuning which feature the chip, FMIC, blow off valve, getting guages etc etc and I had a good read of your thread on the Coupe forum, the pics were a bit wierd, kinda tiny and zoomed in at the same time lol

Anyway, what stage of tuning did your engine get to? What power output and spec did you eventually achieve? Was it reliable? Do you still use it now?

Preferably I'd like to tune my 16v without splitting the block, so keeping the internals stock. I've read the pistons and rods can take 300bhp, the crank being forged apparently 400.

I don't particularly feel the need for anything over 300bph in a 700kg car built like a tin can...it will be hard enough to get any power down as it is!

I've been helping my matey build his 20vt Golf engine and I'd like to stick a T3 on my engine, apparently they also fit without any adaptions, but can the management take more boost than it was programmed for without spazzing out?
