I think black looks tacky. Coloured tints, if done proper, look the part, especially a silver tint.

Around where i live, there is a yellow Sei sporting that drives about with a pure silver back window. Looks great, really matches the yellow paintwork.

Not that i'll ever be a fan of yellow cars

Not sure about the exact % of light you are allowed to screen out, but it goes something like this.

Rear, you can block out everything.
Rear side, pretty sure you can go black, e.g. van mode.
Front side, light shade only.
Front windscreen, sun strip only.

I have been looking at graduated tints and was thinking about putting them on sideways. Light at front, going to black at rear. What do you think?

you gotta be careful when it comes to tinting the sides.
rear sides, go as black as you want, but front sides must let in something like 75% light.
I had 'light tints' on my front ones, and got stopped by the police.
they did the light test and they were letting in 27% light - lol
and they made me take them off or have a fine/possible court action.
Dont forget that the cinq has a slight tint anyway.

Just been told that by the end of this year you wont be able to have any tints on the windscreen, front drivers or passenger windows

i'm a professional tinter,have been for a while now,check the thread springs and snorta to see my cinq with tints! anyway,law states rear sides and rear can be as dark as you want,sunstrips can only be 6 inches from the top,not lower,(mines is 9! oops) now the tricky part,law states that the front should let in 70% light,if i use 70% tint its practically clear!!! plus your cinq window has a 2-3% natural tint in it so that that screwed! i install 35% on the front,20% on all the rears, never had one problem with the police,and never had one car come back because of the police! havent been informed of any changes to the law,have heard rumours but theyve been about for years! by the way 35% on the front sounds dark but it isnt inside,pro film at 35% is perfect for the fronts dark on the outside but inside its very light,not like the crap you can buy at halfrauds!!!

for a cinq/sei i'd be charging in the region of £140 for a full tint,thats with a 5 year grte! some people think thats a bit dear but take into account that for a cinq/sei youd need three rolls of halfrauds film @ £15 each there £45 plus maybe an extra roll if you make a mistake,some diy tinters do a good job but compare it to mine it's night and day! plus i will guarantee that in a years time my tint looks fresh and like new as pro tint has anti scratch coatings on it where as cheep film will be scratched and after a good summer will start to look dry/faded from the inside,it also peels after a while as the glue isnt very good! but,you gets what you pay for!!!!

as for all you guys fed up with tint that is grey/black, just recently i received samples of some new film some coloured chrome type film and some film that is mirrored bronze that fades to black(from the top to the bottom) the fade film comes in about 5 colours,silver to black,bronze to black,gold to black,chrome red to black,chrome blue to black and green to black! quite stunning but it's illegal!!!all measures out at about 15% only really for show cars.

Not sure if it helps, but I got midnight tint on whole way around car, never had any problems with cops.

Any lighter and I just felt it was a waste of money, I almost went for limo... but that WOULD have been stupid

police seem to come and go with window tint! only ever use limo on the rears! if you do use it on the fronts you WILL crash! i've done a few cars in 35% 0r light all round,most recently an audi tt, and you would be surprised at how dark the outside looks! again as i've said before pro film makes all the difference,get the cheap stuff your car would look quite light but pro film has a at least 2 extra layers too it,giving it a darker look but not affecting the vlt (variable light transmission)

I've got limo black in the back sides and boot and "light smoke" in the front windows. My windscreen just has a 6" sun strip.

I tinted the back side ones myself, just bought the tint for about £10. The boot window is HARD to do, so I decided to get it done professionally along with the front ones. The company who did mine charge £50 a window with a life time guarentee against bubbling and peeling etc. They told me the back ones can be dark as you like, but they only fitted "light smoke" on the fronts cos anything darker is illegal.

If I got pulled by the cops about my front tints being too dark and forced to remove them I don't think I could. It's impossible to see where the tint and glass meet so I wouldn't be able to peel it off. That's how good a job they did!

I think unless its equal all round, it don't look right. I'd maybe consider a 30-35% all round, and that would be for a slight alteration to the look of the car, rather than hiding stuff inside.

Fimmo, can you get a silver-type one all round 30-35%? Or is that illegial?

has anyone seen dark red window tints?? thinkin about gettin some done sometime in the future but not sure if it will look cool or stupid[?]


if there's room between the arch and wheel its not low enough!

i've seen light red and mirrored red but not dark red plus i had an xr2 respayed in a pearl blue so i used a slighty reflective blue tint on it,looked ok but after a while the novelty ran off,changed it to charcoal,looked a lot better plus inside everything was back to their normal colours! coloured tint changes everything! also to mckrob, you can get silver in legal tint but only halfrauds sell it,if you test it on a vlt meter because it's mirrored it can sometimes screw up the meter,but it is legal,bit to 1980's for most people but it's all down to what you like!also,it can look a bit crap after you have heatshrunk the back window,also any small bubble left looks worse because it reflects back on itself! i personally dont use it.

Apparently, my mates cinq is illigal due to how dark his tints are. Im not sure how dark in % they are, but lookin in, you have a job to see in, all around! While we are on the topic of the outside, how can i get the badges off the back without breaking them? Are they jst stuck on? Any ideas how much a sporting badge is? Regards, G
