Hi all
I've searched the forum but cannot find this issue mentioned so thought i'd ask.

I need help with timing on my Fiat Seicento 2003 1.1 sporting essentially the belt walks.

Fitted a new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner and when i slowly crank the engine(its on an engine stand), the belt walks to the edge of the cam pulley and rubs on the edge of the lip on the water pump pulley as if its attempting to come off.

I have tried adjusting the tensioner again and again with no success and have put back on the old tensioner and belt and it still walks.

Please help, Any ideas are welcome

Thanks
Brik

how many turns are you making before it starts moving over?

are all the pulleys siting true in their relative positions? is there any wear on the pulleys?

have you tried turning it over a good few times with a bit of tension on the belt, but not fully tensioned. then retension it as it should be and do a load more turns, then double check the tension again?

thanks the response.

i would say after 2-3 full turns on the crank it begins to move.

The pulleys haven't been removed so in theory should be sitting fine and don't look eroded/damaged.

Just tried what you mentioned and it still walks to the outer area of the cam/rubs on the water wall of pump pulley.

is it possible the new water pump pulley is doing this ? i've avoided taking it off as i put it on with a gasket maker so will be messy

update for anyone who has this issue : It was the water pump, the pulley sat a few mm forward on my new water pump when compared to my old.

When i put my new belt and tensioner on with my old water pump it tracked perfectly.

So now to find an OEM water pump, unless anyone knows a way to dismantle them ?

I am having water pump issues too. It appears to be making a noise when warmed up. It's a brand new gates branded pump.

I had to remove the pump when the engine was back in the car and that had instant gasket on, wasn't too bad to do.
Ps. Don't use hylomar, silicone type sealant works far better
