Hi all.
After doing the 1.4 16v engine swap and searching through other posts I have an issue where the engine runs perfectly gets up to temperature nicely but the fan isn’t kicking in.
I have replaced the radiator, fan, temperature sensor fan switch. Changed the coolant bled the system and am afraid to take it out for its first run for the fear of overheating it.
I have checked the wiring and the fan works with a power probe when I unplug the radiator switch and test it from the plug.
Anyone have any suggestions how to solve this one? Thanks :)

Yes the cooling system is from the Cinq the sensor in the side of the rad plugs in to the Punto loom as does the fan switch. The coolant temperature sensor that gives the reading on the dash is a single wire that is plugged in to a universal coolant sensor as the 1.4 engine doesn’t have this unlike the Cinq.
Everything runs well gets up to temperature just can’t seem to get the fan to come on. I know I can wire a switch to manually operate the fan but would like it to come on as it should. Just not sure what to do to get this working

On the cinq, the big fan switch turns on the fan, on the 1.4 the temp switch tells the ecu to turn the fan on. So I guess you got live to the cinq big switch, when it gets hot it allows the power to flow through the rad switch to the fan. If you have live at switch,Earth at fan, when you short switch in rad the fan should come on.(or live and earth reversed, check wiring diagram to see if it feeds live or earth to fan) If it does the rad switch is faulty.

Thanks for the helpful info I’m using the Punto sporting loom and have connected everything as per the guide on here would the wiring diagram that I need be for the Punto sporting if so do you have a link to where I can get a copy to double check the wiring.
When the radiator sensor on the side of the rad is unplugged and a power probe put to the plug the fan does work. I have replaced the radiator sensor thinking it was that but still have the same issue. Is there a separate earth for this that I could have possibly missed?

You using the temp sensor and ecu and relay to work the fan off the 1.4, or basic rad switch closes and makes connection with cooling fan to run, using the basic cinq fan system??? If it's the basic cinq system, shorting out the white radiator fan switch with a paper clip should make the fan work, if it doesn't work your missing a +ve or -ve,or fan is faulty. You say fan works, can't remember if the system uses a relay, but what ever you are feeding the fan to make it work(+ve/-ve) is what's missing from the circuit.

Thanks for your help the rad fan kicks in as it should it’s the temperature gauge giving a false reading it reads too hot when it should be half way.
I was worried of it getting too hot so tested with a laser thermometer until it got up to the correct temp for the fan to kick in and it did.
Any idea how to solve this so that it reads as it should? I have fitted an aftermarket single terminal temp sender and earthed the body of the sender housing and can’t seem to work out why I have the incorrect reading on the dash.

What sensor are you using for the dash? Is it a Cinq original one? You need an original sensor as these sensors tend to have different characteristics and you can't just use a random or "universal" one.

It’s a 10mm thread sensor with a spade connector on the top of it. Does anyone know what size thread the correct Cinq sensor is and I’ll swap it as I don’t have the old one. Thanks

Sensor for dashboard seems to be M16.
If you find a suitable sensor then let me know. I have the exact same issue with my 1.4 16v Cinq.

I’m going to try and drill the 10mm hole bigger on the joint adaptor and re thread the hole to take the Cinq sender and see if that reads correctly

Just to update this I have drilled out the adapter and re threaded it to accommodate the Cinq sender fitted it and works perfectly and now reads correct on the dash so thanks for the help on sorting this out. IMG_2432.JPG
