I have a mpi sei and the engine management light is on. read the fault codes and said coolant sensor malfunction and misfire. I went to change the sensor which is the green one next to the stat but im struggling to move it because of these little black locking pins that sit around the sensor and stop me getting a deep socket around it or a spanner over it. has anyone else had this problem or have any tips on how I can get around this problem. im debating grinding the pins off but that's a last resort I don't really want to grind it!!!
any help would be much appreciated

What p/n have you purchased and where from...?
From what I can see, the MPI coolant sensor comes complete with the plastic housing.

Easy job.
Undo jubilee clamp.
Undo the bolt.
Try not to spill too much coolant (have a bucket or drip tray ready) .
Can't remember if the small plastic clip underneath needs to be undone too.
Then swap over to the new sensor and plug it in.
If it's an original hose clamp, probably easier to cut it off and replace with a jubilee.
Cheaper on euro car parts too at £25

Changed the sensor last night the bottom bolt was a bit of a pain to do as it was a bit awkward to get to but shes running fine for the time being thanks for the help guys hopefully this has sorted the issues

so yeah turns out that my car is still broken a day later and the same fault codes turn up again :( engine coolant temp circuit malfunction any one know what else i could try?

Do you have a 5 volt feed at the temp sensor plug
Do you have a earth at the temp sensor plug

Try testing your old temp sensor
Multimeter set to ohms and connected across the two pins and take a reading
Warm sensor and watch multimeter reading,as temperature rises resistance reading should drop
