You need a code2 key which has a chip in it, that can be programmed with the code from either your working key or from the downloaded codes from the code box/Ecu.
Then the key is cut to fit the locks.

I too have same issue, the original key has snapped off but the car still starts with spare key if I hold transponder from snapped key near to spare whilst turning car over, I would like to get a new key so I don't need to do this any more but where can I get one cloned?

I guess I can get one cloned from transponder & spare key even though they are separate?

What car is this for ????

If there's not a 2 on the key they're extremely easy to clone. (Timsons, etc.)

A bit harder if there is, but there are places that can do it now.

Removing the immob will make your insurance company very upset indeed!

are cloned keys any good long term though?
i have a punto with a generic key and since its had the battery off for a few weeks the key is now not recognised
result a one tonne paperweight

Ive never yet seen a key loose its code etc, so if you have not used the car for some time, then its something else.
If the key code light is on it means the ECU is probably not speaking to the rest of the car - and its certainly not asking for the keycode from the key!.

Tony.

Yes fair point but i can only report as i see:)
i can actually check on the bench if ecu is working and on this car it is
the bsi is showing no errors so i can only assume its the key
its not my means of earning so my knowledge is limited by what i find and read
by the way the key came from a load of cobblers whom i vehemently never recommend:D

mmh, you say it came from a cobblers so I assume its a key bar and I''m amazed it ever worked. I looked into this problem a couple of years back and certainly there were no-one cloning type 2 keys then. That does not mean its not possible now!
The basic problem I found then was that the transponder had a hidden area with a code in it, this code is different in every key. There is also an area for writing the coding which is in a visible area, this portion can be copied to another key. I believe what needed to be done is to transfer the invisible portion to the BSI. So you see it gets rather complicated.
Best of luck.
Tony.
