Hi, a friend of mine just bought a sei and it has a rather stiff steering. There is no steering light on, and when i had a look i couldnt see the PAS motor so I am assuming it is a non PAS. Are the racks known to fail, what should i check besides tie rods and outer ball joints?

Top and bottom of strut, you may need to separate the track rod end ball jonts to isolate strut pivots from rack, the rack, the rack end points pivots and the track rod ends need to be free....

The steering should be really light for girlies with long finger nails..

P.S> if the boots on the strut lower ball joints are missing or damaged that is a good clue...
