Hi Guys,

Just brought a 1999 Seicento Abarth (Very happy).

Needs some TLC but nothing too major!

Just wanted to double check but i think the CV Joints needs replacing as when i turn right its makes a whirring/scraping noise. This only happens when i put my foot on the accelerator and it seems to match the speed of the engine.

Am i right in saying thats what i need to replace? I haven't had a chance to get under it yet!

Also i have driven a later model Sei Sporting before (I think 2001) and the breaks are very responsive and you don't have to really lean into it at all to break hard (Has ABS) However the Sei that i brought it feels like i really have to push hard to get any sort of breaking from it!

Are the earlier models like this or do i need to look into the servo etc?

The pads do need replacing anyway as they whirring but i wouldn't of thought this would be the reason for the breaks feeling so stiff!

Cheers!

For the brakes, try the pads. ABS is very rare indeed, except on the Schumaker, and many folk bin it. General consensus is, it's not much cop.

Scraping noise could be bare brake pads touching disks.

I'd rule out, for now, CV joint -- usually the inners are more or less immortal, the outers will make a noise like someone running a cane along iron railings when they've had it.

Could be a wheel bearing, but investigate the pads and disks as a matter of urgency and get back.

Finally had a chance to look!

The front pads are fine and so is the CV joint so i am guessing it may be the wheel bearing although if the wheels are straight or facing left it doesn't seem to make a noise!

The rear brake shoes were metal to metal though which would be why the brakes felt funny! Ordered some new ones!

Hi there,
I bought my seicento sporting 4 weeks ago and i suspect the cv joints are worn coz. Could you tell me how you checked yours?
Thanks

Utter and total breakdown of etiquette today.

1. Start your own thread. That way you'll probably get it answered more quickly.
2. Say what the problem is (or why you think there's a problem)
3. Don't write gibberish
i suspect the cv joints are worn coz.
Because? Cousin? Cosworth?

If you expect people to take the time to answer, you ought to take the time to write something that you've thought through.
