but you cant just put a 1.4 turbo lump in... it doesnt fit and the front end needs major modification... turboing the fire unit would be alot easier

Yeah. Its basically a front end of car off job. The engine mounts need to be majorly modded for the UT lump, plus theres all possibility that the G/B might be longer. Then theres the change mechanism , fuelling and ignition to think about.

The vAD turbo, whilst its only 85BHp (but thats still 85BHp in a 735kg car = 116BHp/ton!), is a much easier swap, thew engine doesnt have to come out I dont think...I know the head needs to come off though

The light pressure kit could be fitted DIY aslong as your competent and get it setup on on a RR afterwards.

The high pressure needs internals so is basically an engine rebuild job if you want to do it properly.

In order to get any lasting enjoyment out of the turbo'd lumps I'd be changing/checking/uprating any other components connected to avoid any off road periods.

And then there is the issue of temperatures and to solve this an oil cooler is required.

IIRC a guy on here called smokeme has made a DIY kit, and was thinking about selling some. Maybe drop him a PM

S this is where he heard about me:confused: , my kits are not ready for sale unless i get a way to add fuel that is foolproof or close to it. I've been able to get the timing under control but there are still ways the installer can screw up on the fuel side of the installation. If you need more info visit my site in a while (i'm uploading a revised version right now so it may be incomplete)

GOT ANY PICS?

A Uno Turbo engine won't flow air to go much over 225hp. A Punto GT engine swap involves a lot of work to fit as will the UT engine, this was the reason i went the turbo fire route. A higher displacement engine WILL produce power lower then the fire engines however.

Ben, problem is your 17 and you wont stand a chance in hell getting insured on a Turbo, your looking at over £2000.

I was considering the Yellow Van Arken Turbo which was on eBay for some time and Bman bought it before me but I rang up loads of insurance company's including specialist companys and at 19 almost 20 and 3 years no claims I was quoted the cheapest of £2300 which was more than the car... so your 17 with no, no claims there ait a chance in hell. :bang:

I guess you could drive around insured only as standard Sei Sporting for a few years until you are old enough for insurance on the turbo but you would have to really keep it quiet and not tell many people and make sure you dont crash or get caught speeding but i really dont suggest any of that as its your one stop shop for a ban and even jail for sometime if you hit someone not propely insured!

Best thing you can do is work on what you have i.e. do mods which wont effect insurance to much and ones that you wont even need to tell them like 40mm Tb etc..

Come have a drive in mine, you may just change your mind cinq sunderland :D

The low boost kits run at 0.3 bar (or 4.4 psi if you're old like I) and provide a healthy gain. Standard 1108cc 54bhp cinq rises to 85bhp, torque rises from 63 to 92 lbs ft.

That's close enough to 50% more power and torque.

you need an engine that was specifically designed for a turbo these kits are useless might as well stick a 12v fan on air intake like ones on ebay the psi they kick out is a joke complete money waist

Like i always say, an engine is an engine it's what you do to it that puts it apart. If you don't believe me see this http://smokeme.coconia.net/999cc_fire_mpi.htm

Obviously no one else is crazy enough to push 1bar of boost on a stock engine, but it proves my point!! (this was done on purpose btw)

The performance per £ ud get is brillant on such a small engine.
The only way ud get similiar power with standard engine is headwork, cam etc or engine swap. Both of these would cost more than the van aken kit.
And u could always build on the kit when money allows and get even more hp.

BUT... how hard is it to fit?

i know it used a second injector, so does that mean changing the throttle body? if not, then how do u connect the second injector?

and what about the ecu.... does the kit come with a chip? is it a straight swap in the ecu?

and i am guessing it is just a case of plumbing the turbo in? then gettin it all set up on a rolling road?

or is there somethin i am missing?
