Hi there!!!

I picked up a nice little 1.1 seicento sporting last month, V reg, and have loved every minute driving little Suzy, as the Mrs has named her
However over the last week, she has been causing me the following issues
I drive about 20 miles to work, and as I arrived the past few mornings, the lights have dimmed,I have lost power steering, and this morning the engine died. On the M6. I managed to get her down the slip road, and a passing car gave me a jump start.
what is odd is that when this happened the 1st time (I lost power in the car park) at home time, the engine refused to turn over in the morning, but when I was leaving, it started 1st time, no jump required.
Now I'm not mechanically minded, as this is my 1st car, but I would like a few ideas, so that I won't get mugged off at the mechanics.

Cheers,
macca

hi mate,

check the voltage of the battery with engine off and then with the engine running.
looking at this page you'll find your data in the FAQ/Sei-Cincq/cinq-sei-data page at the Battery section.

might only be some intermittent problem though.
back at highschool i used to drive a mazda and one of the connectors on the battery was loose:D
and it caused unexpected stops when driven on rough tracks

hi and welcome to the forum(y)(y) first thing i would be checking is all the earth connections by taking them all off and cleaning up,greasing and then reattaching as 1 dodgy earth can cause a world of misery :cry: check the terminals on the battery are tight and clean and then come report back.:D:D

Thanx guys, after checking the earths, while they weren't pristine, they were clean and well connected. Bought a new battery, and had it fitted, just gotta wait n see if its the alternator :-s.
thanx again,
Macca

Alternator should of been checked before fitting new battery cause if alternator is churning out too much then it will fry your new battery:eek: and you wont be able to claim it under guarantee as they will say well you had new battery fitted to duff alternator....you need another battery:mad::mad: but on the other hand you could come back with well you should of checked it before fitting as it came in with battery problem :p:p
