here's the issue, i got a 96 cinq that is rusting away but good engine and gearbox worth keeping.

got a 99 seicento sporting where the timing belt had slipped a few too many notches rendering the engine useless till i can take it apart and rebuild correctly.

can i put the cinq engine in the sei,and use the cinq gearbox,or use sei gearbox with the cinq engine?

both engines are SPI ,just 3 years apart.

The Sei engine is fine, you can snap the belt and do no damage to those engines. They're safe / non-interference

But in answer to the question, yes.

well gonna try retiming it and see how it goes, if all is well then saved some time, if not then the labour begins,

Assuming the Cinq is an 1108, the engines and boxes are interchangeable.

they are right though, new timing belt and jobs a good'un - one of the reasons these are so good to learn on - if you mess it up nothing breaks, you just whip it off and re-time it.

Whip engine out of cinq put to one side for spares

Gotta admit, I was surprised at just how easy and painless the belt change seemed to be! Despite all written evidence to the contrary, I still expected it to be a pain.

aha gonna be a good weekend,means the sei is a bargain buy

80 quid and half an hours work needed,i do love cinq/seis

,whole cinq breaking so keep an eye on the classfields.

get a new cambelt tensioner as well as the belt if you gonna do the change

You have to take the alternator belt off to get at it so get new one of them as well. And you can swap the water pump for a new one as well while your at it. Once you start taking bits off it will become apparent why i say all this
