Hey Everyone

Today I noticed when I had my sidelights on the passenger sidelight does not come on but the main bulb comes on but dimmed!

I have checked the wiring and I cant find any evidence of tampering, the sidelight bulb is still good and working. This problem must have only happened in the last couple of months as the bulb blew in early august yet the sidelight was working.

Also when I put dipped beam and main beam on the light works as normal.

Can anyone help?

Chris :)

Thanks for your quick reply! The bulb is the correct one and works fine as I tested it on the other side. Even if one of these are the problems, what would cause the dipped to come on dimmed?

Chris

i have had this problem on all my cinqs and my imola blue one has just started and all i have ever found is the black connector going to headlight bulb has crumbled inside and starts to short out same with sidelight bulb holders.i just go scrappy and cut the connector plugs off old fords and never had a problem afterwards(y)

Okay ill check out the connectors tomorrow and do I bit more investigating. If I cant find anything, ill be looking for a new connector

Thanks!

On the subject of electrics, can I fit a bigger alternator to my 899?

Hey Everyone

Cinqs have "Dim Dip" for the sidelight position when the ignition is on.

Dim Dip means the dip beam bulbs come on, but at lower brightness.

To check the 5W sidelight bulbs, turn the ignition key to the "Park" position.

That is interesting david, however why would it do this for for the passenger side yet the driver side is the 5w sidelight?

Well, one possibility is that the "dim dip" is wired in one side and not the other. But the bad earth/fubared connector thing is more likely. You can buy brand new connectors for a fiver or less off eBay or your local factor. Fit them properly (solder, heat shrink, etc.) use a little silicone grease or vaseline on the connector and they'll outlast the rest of the car.

On DimDip the 5W sidelight AND the dim H4 bulb are on at the same time.

So you probably have an issue with the resistor that dims the H4.

Looks like you have several issues, the non working 5W may have gone unnoticed for a while if the MOT tester never checked it in the "Park" position.

I think iv figured out the problem and it turns oit its simpler than I thought! The connector for the sidelight was all rusty, went to the breakers and got a good one, now the sidelight works!

The drivers side dim dip isnt working because the bulb has blown! Feel abit stupid for not noticing that!
Oh well a good excuse to get a pair of osrams in there

Thanks for your help everyone :)
