When we start the engine in our Y reg 2001 Seicento SXi we can hear a ticking sound. Now first thoughts where fecked oil pump not pumping oil aronud. First of all has anyone had this issue ?

I personally think it's a noisy injector, I am right in thinking the Sei is a multipoint injection ? If so how much is a new injector and is there anyway way I can find out if it is a noisy injector ? I was thinking of disconnecting each one from the wiring loom and seeing it they still did it but can I do any harm by doing this ?

The car has only done 25000 miles so low mileage.

Thanks Ivan

Just found out it's an MPI and the injector is £114.20, the injector can be taken out and cleaned as I suspect it is dirty and not closing or opening properly as the engine is a little lumpy on tick over.

it should have 4 injectors..surely

Yes but only one is noisy.. I am taking them out this weekend to have a look at the condition and possibly give them a clean to see if I can quieten the noisy one down.

Good idea, might have to try some cleaner first.

I take it the tappets are shimmed and therefore not manualy adjustable easily ?

Hi,
You can unplug one injector at a time to find out which one is noisey, the car will easily run on three cylinders at idle.....

Thanks

That is fine but won't you throw up an error code (Something like open loop injector ###) that can be read by the dealers ?

Hi,
Not sure....just a way of checking to see which one is noisey....it didn't put the warning light on with a Ford engine management system, but the Fiat system is different so it might. The injectors should be common parts with other Fiats such as Punto's and Brava/o's so should be available form breakers at a reasonable price..

Thanks

My MPi does that too. Mine only has 10k on the clock,I think it's just the hydraulic tappets when the engine is cold.It goes away when the engine is warm.Prolly par for the course on these engines.Maybe try a slightly thinner oil, like a 5/40 perchance.

I have got 5w40 fully synthetic in there at the moment so I can rule that out. It is better when the engine is warm. I think it's a trait as you said.
