Righty..

I'm not that great with engines :( This weekend me and my mates dad are gonna change the gaskets and servicing my Seicento Sporting. Luckily my mates dad is pretty clued up having built his own performance vehicle (using a pinto engine - transit engine!!) I was wondering if any of u guys recommend any perticular type of gasket?!?!!?

I know that they can giv wy at round 60k so am probably due a change, mainly for my own piece of mind. Eventually I'll be looking to ad an induction kit and change the throttle body. If i was to do this would this effect my ecu? I do not have the red key so dont wanna incurr too many cost just yet. Also in relation to gaskets, would i need a stronger type of gasket to handle extra compression?

I may sound dumb wiv some of the above but my extent of work carried out on cars stretch to changing a battery!!! :bang: Am hoping to learn as much as possible so any suggestions would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Cheers Guys n Gals

Why are you changing the head gasket...has it failed??

If you do change the head gasket I trust you are putting a new cambelt and tensioner on.......would be worth changing the water pump at the same time.

when/if you get an induction kit and TB your ecu will be effected until it re-learns itself about the changes

Hi AppleCei!

As I am quite new to the FIRE engines, and engine management systems I have a question:

How are the ECU be able to "learn" a new setup?
How long time/kms/revolutions will this take?
Is it possible to delete the ECU`s memory?

Thanks!!

Best regards

The ECU is essentially the cars 'brain'

Like ourselves whenever we come across some new permanent information we have to learn it in order to get used to it, this is essentially what the car and the ECU is doing, with an induction kit there is a potential power increase that isnt standard or what the car is used to, so it has to re-learn itself

It normally takes a few hundred kms for the car to get used to the changes

what extra pressure?

Hahahaha...so it was a stupid question then?!?!? Again, apologies for my lack of knowledge. I'm just starting out with this whole self service stuff...sick of bein f****d over by cowboys

The engine bay has a bit of oil around the block. Seem like it is coming from head gasket as top/rocker cover seems clean. Also seems a little smokey....white variety (coolant?). There is no mayo in filler cap tho. Oil is pretty black so defo could do with a service. Got some service history but not enough to put my mind at ease.

Yes, am lookin to change cambelt and tensioners too. Would be crazy to go through it all and not do it. Think the water pump is recent so may leave it in 4 now.

Am in need of roof canvas for sunroof. Any ideas??

Again guys, any advice is appreciated.

Will this become a ballache if i don't have the red key? Thinkin about goin for a 1.6 16v TB from a Bravo/Brava. Did u do anythin to your old cento engine wise?

Think the car needs a good service and a decent run out personally and i think you would sort out the problems

Roof - would go to a specialist who does cabriolet roofs and can repair them, wouldnt attempt this job DIY

Engines - have a serch of forum regarding engine changes, 1.6 maybe too big

My car - i didnt do nothing engine wise as at the end of the day it was never meant as a long term vehicle and for the amount it costs to do an engine change (depending on how far you go) i can just go out and buy as quick if not quicker car for same price

Some sei (sx and sportings i think) came with the option of a canvas roof, but it is essentially the same setup as a cinq soliel IIRC

Cheers Applesei :worship:

Yer, its factory fitted. Had a scout on ere and found some instructions on how to replace the roof but still strugglin to source the canvas itself.

Appartently I've gotta take out roof linin, unscrew suppert bolts n whole thing should just come out. However, until i have got at it i cant diagnose the fault.

U guys have been wkd....will keep u updated wiv my quest for success mwahahahaha

:D
