I've never swapped a clutch before - I have a 190mm flywheel (10mm bigger) from a 1.2 16v punto / bravo which I've had lightened

As long as the flywheel & clutch match up correctly, is there anything I might have problems with when matching this to my 1108 8v Seicento?

On the plus side the flywheel hasn't cost me much & my current clutch is on its way out so I have an excuse.

I'm planning to fit the following after establishing that Black Diamond list a clutch kit but don't actually sell it anymore due to only ever having sold 2!!!

http://www.clutch-specialists.co.uk/product.php?productid=17171&cat=2&page=1

FIAT Punto I - 85 - 1.2i - 16v (04/97-07/99) ( CGMOTORSPORT FAST ROAD CLUTCH KITS )
cc: 1242
Engine Type: DOHC
Piece Kit: 3
Engine Code: 176B9000
Spline: 20
d/p dia: 190

Part No. CGSK7705
Price: £111.59 (inc. VAT)

why is it so expensive? What power is rated to, what power are you putting out? Remember the stock punto clutch is good for 85bhp and a heavier car (and is less than half the price)

Make shure you change the clutch release arm and bushes whilst the box is off.
I put a new clutch in 5k ago and has halve worn fingers on the pressure plate due to uneven release bearing contact. The clutch got heavy again and today something snapped and the pedals on to the floor.

I was always considering going for a bigger displacement engine in the future such as putting together an 1368 8v mpi or going the whole hog & doing 16v so it was always my plan to go the route of trying an uprated clutch.

Apart from cost are there actually any downsides going for something like the one I listed?

Handy suggestion to find out what power it is rated to, thanks (y)

dont know anybody thats used the CG clutches on a cinq, Davethetrike had one on his punto with the charged engine. ive got it now. its the uber expensive paddle clutch but ive not tried it yet, got a steel flywheel for it aswell:)

if you are planning to do that, then just fit the uprated clutch when you fit the 1368. OR, just use a stock 1368 clutch as the engine will no doubt come with a flywheel.

I know what you mean arc but I'm looking to replace the clutch now as mine seems to slip annoyingly at times :bang:

I picked up the 190mm flywheel really cheaply & I'm not sure when I'll do an engine upgrade or even if I'll settle for an 8v 1242 when my Gifrlfriend changes her Punto

ycming - would you describe the one you have as frustratingly stiffer & have you found any issues with the cable breaking more often?

Nope not at all, it just seems when the clutches engages is slightly harder than the normal clutch.

My cable did snap afterwards but I did get a second cable from a scrappy. After that i did fit a new cable and the spilt pin at the hook of the cable keep slipping off. Now added a washer and it has been fine since then.

Sounds OK then (y)

From reading what you've said in the quote maybe this means it grabs that bit more 'cos the material grips better & is less keen to slip for a given level of engagement?

Or do you just mean that the cable is a bit harder to pull by pushing down the pedal?

So which parts should I replace of the release assembly if I wish to renew any that might wear out while it is all apart?

I guess I stick to the release bearing for the Seicento as it'll match up with the Sei assembly?

I'm now appreciating my lack of understanding of how the car is put together - am about to put my spare gearbox on that contains the Limited Slip Diff & my friend has just asked if the standard Seicento starter will match up to a 190mm flywheel that I sourced from a Punto if it is 10mm larger diameter, or if it has a seperate starter ring that is a common size for all on it. Am not able to look at mine 'cos it is at home so I figured I'd ask here if anyone knows

Turns out that the two flywheels appear to have the same outer diameter & that it is the diameter of the frictional surface that makes the difference, picture isn't amazingly clear but looking at it head on it is 190mm.

Sorry guys, deleted that post as I remembered that I knew the answer!!!

Been flapping 'cos I diddn't realise that I haddn't checked the one that came with the kit to compare it to the original, turns out that they appear to be interchangeable :slayer:

I was comparing release bearings by the way for anyone else that reads this since I deleted the question I asked. It appears that the release bearings are interchangeable on most of these FIRE boxes, the CG Motorsport release bearing really does look a hell of a lot more robust than the original though :slayer:

All fitted, can't really say that the clutch feels much heavier. I changed the release fork, bearings, clutch release bearing, flywheel for a 190mm from a 1242 Punto 16v & the fast road CG Motorsports Clutch, it all now works perfectly with no judder!!! (y)
