I've just built up a 1242cc 8v for my MPI Sei....
1242cc selecta block, 1108cc MPI head with a 3mm skim, 866 cam, Sei flywheel with 1.5kg off it, 1242cc 16v throttle body and injectors... Mines throwing up the dreaded 0300 code too.... Multiple misfire...

I've tried plugs and leads, new knock sensor, new cam sensor too... No improvement... Will plod through it this weekend.
Considering coil packs....

I have something called a PLX Kiwi Wifi which I plug into the OBD port and can read all the sensors via my iPhone.... Lambda's are fine... Voltages are the same as they were... It's increased the fuelling itself... So the mixture is correct.
Might also try fiat ECU scan.... But will have to go to my mates next week...
I'm also going to try different coilpacks too

I was looking at a thread that covered a similar problem to the one I was having.... Sorry about the dates

Don't worry about that.

Is it actually misfiring?

It could be the ECU just getting confused by what the knock sensor is saying to it. Odd vibrations etc.

What happens if you just unplug the knock sensor, and let the ECU start ignoring it.

I spoke to fiat yesterday about the issue... They mentioned that they can plug the car into examiner, reset the engine perameters....
In addition to the phonic wheel reset....

They were telling me that both the 1108 and 1242 both share the small block ECU... and are basically the same unit.
So it's probably that it's unsure who or what it's currently running....

I've moved the knock sensor but not unplugged it as yet.
Will try that this evening.

There isn't a noticeable misfire.... Just throws up a flashing management light ;(

Right... Plugged the car in to FiatEcuScan....
Reset phonic wheel and the engine perameters...

It's not registering the multiple misfire now, but I have aflashing management light constantly....
Nothing being brought up but this:

Any ideas??

I dont know if its any help as my memory isnt so good after so long...
I never managed to get to the route of my problem but there are a few things to check..
My fuel trims were all over the shop so it is worth checking the obvious things like fuel pressure (especially when driving if pos).
I appeared to have a poor ecu earth (messy traces on the oscilloscope) so its worth checking even though it didnt help me.
Unbolt the knock sensor and wrap it in a rag and secure it somewhere to eliminate that.
Im not a fan of disconnecting sensors one at a time to try and identify faults but when you really get stuck, its worth a try(especially when you can clear the codes after)
The crank sensor can throw codes when its starting to die but cant remember if you said you have tried that!?

The code readers and software are great for bringing diagnostics to the weekend fiddler but they dont always tell you the full story. It might be worth getting out the multimeter and checking all of the sensors for resistance etc(man spec data can easily be found on the net)but having access to an oscilloscope and using that whilst the fault is occuring might throw some light on it.
Hope u get it sorted!..

I have access to all of the above....

The only sensor I haven't changed is the cam sensor... But will do that one tmrw...
It's going really well... That's the odd thing.
Will go about 6mm beyond the "V" of Veglia on the MPI dash...
Lambda readings aren't showing any lean bits, timing is ok, knock sensor is reading evenly across all cylinders....
Thrashing around the place it's doing an average of 38mpg.... That's mainly driving in traffic around Cardiff... So it isn't too thirsty...

Just a thought (and dont think you mentioned it....)
You said that you have had the flywheel lightened, have you had it balanced to the rotating parts?
Its a bit of a long shot but (and this is assuming you havent unbolted the knock sensor already) if the knock sensor is seeing frequences it doesnt like, it could start playing with timing and possibly fuel trims(?). Also, you said you have had 3mm skimmed from the head. It sounds like a lot. Do you know your CR (compression ratio) as this may also confuse the ecus knock sensor readings.

* Just noticed 'Arc' already mentioned knock sensor stuff!!! *

I would be tempted to also try a different ecu if thats feasable. At one point I was looking at using a p75 ecu but got stuck at the time trying to get it 'decoded'.
Are the injectors the same ballpark resistance that the ecu is expecting
Im just clutching at straws and writing stuff down as I think of it......
