Our cars a are getting a bit long in the tooth, especially cinqs, and they are all at the 'bargain' end of the spectrum.

Common questions on this forum revolve around how to make the cars go faster.

A lot of forummers also have issues with insurance when it comes to modifications.

So, what is the secret?

Simples.

Service the car, and check all levels weekly.

Not 'wipe over with oily rag', but deep service.

All filters and a quality oil. Don't do cheap.

SPi cars have a fuel filter, its often ignored, don't ignore it.

Good quality plugs, properly gapped.

Coolant changed, flush if neccessary, using the correct spec and properly bled.

Make sure the brakes are working properly, sticky caliper slides can lead to drag at the wheels. Same with stuck rear actuators.

Tyre pressures must also be right, tracking correct, with the rack centred to ensure correct ackermann angles.

Don't skrimp on baldy tyres. Racing cars may use slicks, but they are built to be slicks, road tyres are not. Good quality tyres will improve handling and economy.

You'll be amazed at how fast the car now feels, doesn't matter whether its an 899 or 1108.

I hope this helps

Cheers

Here here!

Its also amazing what can be acheived from an engine rebuild.

Looking after your car will make everything work much better.

There are too many people who rely on the MOT to keep their car roadworthy. By rights, your car should need very little work for the MOT if you maintain it properly!

Agreed this needs a sticky.

Might be worth copying out the weekly list from the Haynes, jsut for ppl who dont have it or are too lazy :p I don't mean all the info, just what should be done. (I'd be happy to do it if you agree)
