I've bought some new brake lines.

My quick question is how to get that little metal wedge out that holds the hose into the L bracket on the chassis or trailing arm?

You don't need them again if you are using braided hoses!! Just cable tie it

Dont forget that you need to do a double loop (or a sort of figure of 8) or sheath the line where it contacts the arm or you're setting yourself up for MOT (and eventual brake) failure. Braided stainless is tough, but will eventually just abrade away if in contact with metal.

If not going stainless, replacement clips are available.

I have reused them on all the braided lines I have fitted, including Goodridge and Earls. i would recommend using them, and if they are really rusty ( i have removed some from a Cinq which fell apart) getting new ones they are not dear and offer piece of mind brake lines are held in place securely an MOT requirement.

The clips are a 'fit and forget' item.

I use tie wraps as I'm taking mine on and off quite often and I have the smaller ends on my braided pipe.

As the braided is much thinner and does have the ssame head for the clip to clip on to??

Just push them on again, but they are really cheap brand spanking new. OTTOMH, if you're doing a disk conversion you can't use them (pipe run is under the trailing arm), otherwise, they fit at the interface between the pipes, so should do the same job. Otherwise, get a peice of rubber or plastic tubing, split it, use that to help bridge the gap.

i reused all mine on my sei with goodridge hoses on

I reused all of mine on my brake conversions with braided hoses. Cover them in copper grease when you refit, so they come out easy next time

are we talking about the metal clip ? or the rubber ring that goes onto the front shock ???

As i dunno how the metal clip could be reused Any one show me a pic ?

How could you not reuse it You remove it, fit the new line, push it back in place :idea:

If you do pry the clip out with a screwdriver, its possible it could ping towards you, so please wear safety glasses. Or get someone else to do it.

Although, they are usually so rusted in place that they have no intention of pinging, but you never know.

Grab the tang with a pair of pliers and pull them off. Make sure your face isn't in line of your hand or the pliers, in case it slips off the clip or the clip comes off without warning (if it's a teenage one! )

Put a new clip on. It's a 20p part....!
