early saturday morning at 7am we set off to ipswich from cheshire in the cinq, this was going to be the furthest I have ever driven by myself!! we went to do the lap timing at the BriSCA F1 World Championship at Foxhall Stadium Ipswich.

Car ran lovely all of the 5 hour trip there, going at a nice steady safe 60-65mph about 10 miles short of Ipswich I noticed that going over the metal strips that run across the carriageway at bridges there was a "ker-ching!!" noise, so pulled into a service station to have a look, my exhaust back box had come loose at the clamp [my fault!] and had in turn slid off the rubber donut behind the fuel tank making the pipe low and touch the ground occasionally, I had to park it on a really high kerb and using my jack too to get some space underneath to sort it out, it needs a new clamp really as the one I had used was slightly oversize and rusty which doesnt help:eek:.

Anyway, we set off home after the event at 10pm and again car ran like a dream all the way, 60-65mph and the temp never budged over 80 and we got back home at 3am we had a tot up and worked out that we used approx £35 of fuel to do 480 miles, pretty good going that!!

anyway, thats what I did at weekend!! :)

Monday morn drove 230 miles down from South Lincs to Bridgend... 4 hours... apart from the anoying vibe problem went well.. mpg.. I dont think has been that great, but need to check it... Return trip on Fri....

My cars quite regularly do those kind of mileages in a day. Most recent trip to central London and back in Blue 2. Fuel consumption was pretty dreadful, but then, it was 4 up, rather fast (at least, when not stuck in traffic -- of the two obvious ways in and out, both werer closed) and is a 1242. From Liverpool to Oxford services via Kensington -- say 260 miles, on a tank. I recon to get another 40 - 50 miles out of a 1108.

What's that in actual volume terms though? You'll be looking at 75 to 91mpg from fuel prices around me.

why do these threads get posted? 'i did a 500 mile trip in car etc'

does the majority of owners have a fear these cars will not cope or explode if they venture out of town?

my sei would eat 500+ mile trip on regular basis but i didnt do a song and dance about it, its a car at end of day, its designed for travelling long distances

I have often been surprised at the number of people who think a drive of more than 10 or 20 miles is a long way.

I was brought up near the Welsh border, and several times a year the family drove down to London for the weekend - long before the motorways.:)

Not quite sure why the 1242cc engines seem more economical than the 1108cc. At a quick stab the 1242 makes more efficient use of the fuel at lower rpm so for the same speed you need a touch less fuel.

I find that mine uses more fuel (but this may be simply that it's driven a little more enthusiastically): I guess in theory, lighter throttle openings = lower fuel consumption. Still 44mpg isn't bad.......... especially compared to 25mpg from a tub! In a NA 1108 I'd expect to reach Birmingham before regassing, so, maybe, 48/50mpg.

Frightening to think how much, even with parking, congestion charge and M6 toll taken into account, it would cost to take 4 adults by train to London and back!

When I first did my P75 conversion to my first Sei I was getting high 40s dipping into low 50s. I'm getting about the same as that on my new 1.1 Sei with similar modifications but on 175/50R13 tyres rather than 195/45R15 tyres.
