Hi all.
I have a cinquecento that up until a few days ago was running fine but with the dashboard injector light illuminating on occasions. When the light came on the car would still run fine but lacked power. Now the light is on permanently & there is a constant lack of power although the car still seems to be running on all cylinders & doesn't mis-fire. Now i know i have a definate fault with the fuel pump as it permanently squeels like a pig, but its been like this since i bought it two months ago. I have fitted a new fuel filter & i know fuel is getting through the injector although i don't know if there is enough pressure there? Oh, also now when the car is cold it seems as if the choke isn't working & the engine seems to pulsate...like a few seconds running fine & then a few seconds almost stalling & back to fine & so on...!
I would be grateful if anyone who has had a similar problem or anyone who could shed any light into what might be the cause?:bang:

Hi. Thanks for that advice.(y) Unfortunately i have checked for those type of leaks & all seems to be fine. I have also removed the throttle body to make sure there are no blockages anywhere & re-fitted it back with a smear of silicone gasket sealant. Also had the injector out & taken the fuel pressure regulator apart but cannot find any obvious faults. Do you know if there is any way of checking the stepper motor & if so do you think this could be a possible cause? I have found a local garage that will plug my car into their diagnostic tester in a couple of weeks time for £25, but i was hoping i could sort it out before then & save the money for any parts i may need. If i have to go down that route then i will post the results for all to see.

Cheers.

Andy

Thanks again for the advice but you have lost me now. Please can you tell me what is the TPS & the ICV? I havn't reset the pressure regulator as i just did what my book told me to do & i never saw anything about resetting it. The only thing i did was leave the battery off for 20 mins after re-fitting (as per my books instructions) the electrical item (that i thought was some kind of stepper) behind the other electrical item off the end of the buttrfly shaft if this makes any sense? Sorry i don't know the names of these items & i'm at work so i can't look in the book. The item i'm referring to looks like some kind of plunger, possibly a solonoid of some kind? Either way, the car is no better since i did the work but it is equally no worse as its running just the same. Please can you tell me what i need to do to set the pressure regulator & do you have any idea of what this plunger like item is that i'm referring to? If so do you know of any kind of test that i can carry out to test it. I am an electrician so testing some items isn't a problem if i know what results to expect.

Thanks again for your help.

Andy

TPS = throttle position sensor. Rheostat on the end of the throttle spindle.

ICV = Idle Control Valve. It is a variable plunger, sometimes carbons up, hence cleaning.

The nominal values are on the Clubcento site.

Just got home & read your reply. Thanks for the info, i will have a look on the clubcento a little later & try out your suggestions. I have just looked in my book & they call the TPS a throttle potentiometer which makes sense as does TPS now that you have explained. Also the item i thought was a stepper motor, is the ICV & in the book they do call it an idle control stepper motor.
When i had the ICV out of the throttle body i did give it a good clean as it was covered in what looked like oily carbon deposits & looked in generally poor health. I also cleaned the crap from the chamber it sits in. I will now try & find the test values on the clubcento site & fingers crossed my ICV will be knackered?

I really appreciate the help you have given me today & hopefully you will have helped others too. I think this is a fantastic site & it's all thanks to people like your good self who take the time to help people like me in their hour of need
Will post the outcome tomorrow.

Cheers.

Andy

Andy did you get the enging sorted? as everything I have just read on this thread is what is happening on the car I have just got.

I was going to go to the scrappie tomorrow and see if I can find another throttle body assy.
