It looks like the bottom of my passenger door is going rusty. At the moment the paint is bubbling, but the rust isn't fully through yet. What would the best thing be, should I rub it down and respray now, or wait for it to get worse? I'm thinking that it's best to do ASAP while there's still solid metal there, and before it gets through the paint.

I'll probably get a rust killing primer and I've got half a can of colour and laquer. Has anybody got much experience of killing rust? My dad says that I will be forever chasing the rust, do you think I could hold it off for a few years? The rest of the car (Seicento) is great, and it looks like this panel may have been resprayed. There is a bit of overspray on the door handle and some lauquer is flaking off around the rubber strip

Dad is right. Longterm you'd be better off finding another door. You'll need to respray the old one anyway, so, it's pretty much a no brainer. I'd give what you have, even with the best treatments available, 2 years at most.

The rust has already been there for as long as I can remember, at least 2 years. It seems to be a little worse now though :(. I'm going to be polishing the car soon, but I can't really afford to touch the rusty area. I'm tempted to just go for it and repaint it. Even if the colour doesn't quite match, it'll still look better than rust. Respraying it will probably cost approx £10 with the bits I already have.

The Haynes manual makes it sound so easy :(
