got new driveshaft split it to get it in the housing
they use oversize bearings and dont go into old cup
tried banging with hammer, mole grips all things to pull old cup of gearbox

does anyone know how to remove the driveshaft cup from the gearbox ?

just bought crow bar been knocking 7 kinds of **** out of it
not budging at all is there any other way round it ?
is something else holding it apart from the circlip ?
as there is a circlip round new shaft
is there another way into it to get it out ?

thanks for any help

just wedge it between the cup and the casing, and it should start to move.

not sure on refitting the circlip - i've never had to put one back together,

big screwdriver between the cup and the g.box housing. Good tug and it should drop off easy enough

I think the circlip will come out with forcing - and remain captive to the shaft.

Yep, big screwdriver. Check my thread here, post number 74 in that thread .

You don't need to bash it hard, if you are your doing it wrong. It's important to get the screwdriver quite deep in, as there is a lip/step on the shaft, that lets you get good leverage, just don't damage the seal.

I have a cinq 1108cc and it's leaking oil badly from around the drive-cup/casing plate.I have taken drive shaft out and removed the bolts from the casing plate but the cup won't come off. Am I being a bit thick here? Does it just require some force or is the cup's shaft held in the gearbox by a circlip? Can I remove the cup and replace the seals with the gearbox still in the car or do I have to remove the whole transmission and strip it? Any help greatly recieved, only had the car a month - as a project. Working my way through stuff, but this has stumped me. The Haynes manual has nothing about it! Help!!

Usually one cup will come out easily, and the other won't. Such is life. I'd remove the gearbox. From your description I can't tell where the leak is from. So I've no idea if you'll have to strip anything. Wise to inspect for cracks or damage anyway.

Fer Chrissakes, drain the gearbox. Remove one cop and you can (carefully -- you don't want to damage the diff or the speedo drive) drift the other one out from inside.

This will cause the diff to drop, so you'll have to woggle that back into position before you can get either of the cups back. A peice of broom handle should do it.

Ta for that. Once I knew it wouldn't damage it, I gave the cup a good old tug with the end of a big screwdriver - came out a treat.
It appears that I am missing a retaining circlip from the outside of the rubber seal! No wonder it's piddling oil out. Now all I have to do is get the spares from my Fiat dealer, sometimes this can be like trying to raise the dead!
