I've read with interest the posts on here about fans and overheating and followed the instructions religiously. My main problem is that the fan will run fine for a while and then blow the fuse.

I've run the fan in isolation from the temp switch on the rad and with it connected. I've taken the fan off its mountings (it was catching the rad slightly) and run it and I get the same problem.

Now as far as I can work out, the temp switch is fine - the fan starts at 90deg, the fan appears to be fine - runs very smoothly, so I've either got a dead short somewhere, or the fan is past its useful life!

Anyone got any ideas to try before I go and shell out for a new fan?

Hi If it is doing it after a period of time it could be poor connections on your electrical plugs, inspect these and clean if necesary. could even be a bad (loose) conection on your fuse board.
sometimes when these fans run for long periods the wiring heats up and causes poor conections usually indicated by rock hard insulation.
or if could be just that your fan is on its last legs.
worth a look any way

Rallycinq & Helicopter - thanks for confirming.

Right which bits are scrap and which bits aren't? I haven't taken the fan off the mounting yet, but can I just replace the business end and keep the blades, or does it come as one unit?

Also, advice on whether I should get one from a scrapyard or just buy new would also be appreciated.
