Right...Ive got myself thinking (Not a clever idea)

Ive killed my speedo (it now reads at least 10mph conservatively) whilst fitting the dial faces. Prob is, it needs to be accurate (duh), which it isnt.

Other prob is I cant find Cinq Sportings in scrappys local to me[:(!]...But loads of Punto 55's.

Im thinking as these cars use the same gearbag, so will take their speedo signal from the same place, there is a probability that they also use the same speedo, which would be good, as I need one piddly little bit to sort it!!!

Ideas? Anyone ever seen the inside of their speedo? Its astoundingly easy to clock one!!!!

yes unfortunatly it is,are you sure you cant just take the needle of and allow the pointer to come to a true zero.most likely all fiats of that ilk will share the spped cogs n mech as no one see's it anyway.problem is you would have to (ahem) liberate it as scrappys wont let you break the clocks

Yay!!! I could always claim to be stripping it in order to see how something is setup(Its worked before!!), but then again, the local scrapper round here is about as above board as a submarine is above water:D

once needed the clocks from a higher make of my car, cant remember which.the plastic cover was the same on both so i(accidently) cracked the front cover and took the needles off.went to the scrappy and said i wanted it as a spare so got it for a fiver, replace needles and front cover and wahey.mind you this is a scrappy who's main part of the yard is bigger than a footy pitch so you get left alone

Tried that...its the internal restoring spring. When I was initially stripping it, I didnt realise it was sprung like it is,and I took the needle past two full revolutions of the clock. Snapped the spring.:D

Ive managed to reform the spring using brute force and a soldering iron, but its not working absolutely correctly and as such its subject to variance (conservative speedo readings). So atm, it all reads and clocks up mileage, but its just very inaccurate!!

Yep. Not nice..just got back to uni. 40mph readout is actually 60mph, 50mph is more like 80mph!! Its a good thing Ive got a feel for where wheel wobble gets bad on this one!!

I wouldn't worry about failing an MOT - one of my cars over reads by a long way, eg regularly get up to 100MPH on busy town roads, when I am still in 2nd gear!

It has had two MOT's in this state and passed with no problem.

I think Legally a speedo is not allowed to under read and can only over read by 5%. But there is no easy test and so the average garage will let it pass. After all, they won't do that much driving in the car and so may not even notice!

Martin
