how do i work out fuel consumption figures?

its not wholly accurate, but I did 140 miles on £13 of fuel, at 95p per litre.

I aint good with maths, and have never tried to work it out in all the years I been driving, cars are either good, or bad on fuel IMO!!

and last week, when I did those 140 miles, it was good!! and after a recent lambda replacement.

I think I am heading for another similar amount after putting £15 in, but have had a lot of long uphill motorway stuff to do, power sapping, and probably fuel sapping too, but its still on the right track compared to how it was before the replacement.

I did a spreadsheet to work it out, you just enter the cost of fuel, how much was put in and new mileage reading. If i can track it down you can have it (now attached, its an old one i used to do)

But to get it accurate you need to have a good 'datum' so you should make sure you always fill up the tank and work out miles done on the last fill up, ie fill up and record mileage, then next time fill up again, this second fill up is how much fuel you used since last time and you know how many miles you did. Hope that makes sense.

Oh, and when converting litres to gallons, use the UK gallon not the US gallon.

Whats your fuel gauge looking like on 140 miles for £13 ? Mine would have gone round back to the top !

I put a little amount of faith in the gauge, this good or not ? lol

I'd not even bother looking at the gauge tbh, my sei will sit anywhere between 1/3 and 2/3 full when I put about 15 to 20l into the tank. However I know I get between 9.5 and 10.5 miles/l on my usage so the trip is a much better fuel gauge ;)

It is roughly 46 miles to the gallon which i get out of mine average.

It is easy to work out.

£13 divide by .95pence = 13.68 litres.

Divide that figure by 4.5 (litres per gallon) = 3.04 gallons

140miles divide by 3.04 = 46ish miles to the gallon.

Easy

Cheers Nick
