Im trying to find a member who viewed a car ive bought from ebay. Who ever it was left comments on the auction stating they where on fiatforum which helped me diagnose some problems the car has.

I have a few questions if thats ok as I havnt managed to pick it up yet and want to know if it will survive a 270 mile trip home before I head down to collect.

Anyone?

Yer post them here, the FF member who viewed it might not be a regular on here and there are enough of us that can answer it more than likely, perhaps better than the FF member who viewed it.

Anyway this is the auction of the afore mentioned cinq which was won by OP

Personally for that amount of mileage it will be doing and it isnt the healthiest vehicle going, i would tow it

Brakes work but really are not fantastic almost non existent

Towing without servo assistance will be a nightmare, as will driving....fixed bar, trailer, or pick it up with tool chest and spare parts in hand (y)

Got break down cover with relay? :D

///edit - also no tax! don't want a fine on your first day of ownership lol

Yes thats the car, I wanted to speak to who ever viewed it for a bit more info on the brakes and other problems, if you havnt seen it in person then you cant really answer my questions.

Im going to fix all problems and replace what needs replacing. The car isnt for me its for my girlfriend when she passes her test so still a few months for me to fix it up for her.

I have staff cover with the AA, its being driven a few mile then towed the rest of the way but it depends on how long the AA quote us as if its hours I will probably end up driving it back as its a 12 hour round trip as it is, cant wait around hours for a recovery truck as well. May have tax sorted, im just waiting to hear if the lady still has insurance on it so she can tax it for me. Insurance is booked through dayinsure.com for collection on sunday.

The toolbox and replacement parts is my plan, thats why I wanted to speak to who ever viewed it.

Sorry! Gut reaction, the car isn't as bad as perhaps the ad makes out.

I thought it was very do-able, I just had a change of plan. Really it's the brakes that are the issue. I didn't drive it but did run it. I'm sure that it's either bleeding needed in the brakes, simple, or it's something really major with the master cyl, obviously not simple. It doesn't feel like pad wear as the pads don't bite until the absolute bottom of the stroke, and then they're okay. It gives the feel that if you pushed the pedal through the firewall it'd bite! Incredibly the husband of the seller drove it home from, I think, Hertfordshire!

In the spirit of the forum, I'm only a few miles away so if I can help I will. FYI it's 1 mile from my local Fiat dealer who are good old boys, and 8 miles from the local excellent breakers who has 4 Cinqs including my old yellow sporting.

Meanwhile.... I mile away from the aforementioned Cinq, my Sei is sitting in a car park having coughed it's guts up this morning. Rattling from the top end, followed, on a cold restart, by a gentle tinkling noise, then the starter motor spinning what sounded more like 3 cyls than 4. I'm assuming I now have a 7 valve 3 cyl motor? Any thoughts anyone? It's lunched the piston hasn't it? Ho hum. Rebuild or put a recon engine in?

Your votes please...

Nik

Thanks for that mate, dont suppose you have a post code for the scrap yard just incase I need some bits?

I will be taking my tool box and a few axle stands with the jack so I could bleed it at the side of the road and see if that helps, would just be a bit of bother since its a 12 hour round trip so going to take up enough of the day as it is.

Anyway thanks for your thoughts on the car I will keep all updated on how it goes.

I know that it needs a bit of work but that looks a lovely Cinq for the money. Good luck with it.

(I always wanted a yellow one)

ps. please be aware that there's a big Fiat garage in Diss (Norfolk) called Desira.

Ah, didnt know Desira was in Diss, think I get a discount through punto sports club, can pick up some bits for my GT while im there as I hear they stock most parts.

Hope it all goes well for you. I'm happy to slip over and help if I can. David Yarham is the breakers in Seething, Norwich,

Nice one thanks for the offer, I may give you a ring if we get stuck. Sent you a PM.

Im looking forward to picking the car up and getting started on it, overall petrols going to cost near £100 to get the car home but at £355 its still a decent price even if it does need a little bit of work to get it legal.

Spent this morning reading up on FAQ's and old threads related to braking problems, seems im not the only one with crap brakes!

Anyway im taking my tools so im going to drive it to a quiet car park and bleed the brakes when we get down there, I recon this new master cylinder was fitted DIY and not bled properly, fingers crossed :yum:

Did you check the brake fluid level by any chance? Is the clutch slave hydraulic or cable on the cinqs? I know on puntos its hydraulic and the slave sits higher than the master cylinder so the clutch stops working before the brakes give up but ive got a feeling its cable clutch on the cinqs?
