a Luxury 15ml Carnauba Wax, 5x 50ml Liquid / cream detailing products, accessories, gifts and more......

15ml of wax  what we going to use that on a Matchbox car?

Just had a poke about their site.

Stuff like 50ml of snow foam isn't even going to make up enough solution to do a hatchback.. like wise wheel cleaner and other such products

Other stuff in those quantity's and products listed it works out blooming expensive ok you get some fancy packaging and little bottles but i'm a Yorkshire man ;) there are plenty of reviews on line to give you an idea if something is worth buying :)

eg

http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/index.php/tyregloss-by-autobrite.html

£8 for 500ml..... works out at 80p for 50ml

Angel wax QED

1 x 500ml bottle = £4.40 =44p per 50ml.......

and they get cheaper if you buy bigger in quantity

What would probably be a better idea rather than a lucky dip would be say a range of 5 similar products in a bundle

eg wheel cleaners so you could see which one worked best then buy in bulk

My other half has been buying this sort of stuff for ages starting out with Graze box which is a box of dried foods fit only for rabbit consumption sent to you as often as you want, cost a bloody fortune and not really worth it.

and over the years a few others (I stopped paying attention)

Most recently little tiny pots of makeup and cosmetics started appearing all over the house turns out it was another one of these monthly boxes sent out with what was essentially free samples which my OH was paying for.

Ultimately most of these things rely on a deal from manufactures to supply free or very cheap sample products which they box up and charge a fortune for the total cost of products as Andy Monty has pointed out to some degree is probably only £3-5

So you Pay £18 a month (with postage and packing) £216 a year for some stuff you wouldn't have bought in the first place Might not be any good and will clutter up your house because you've paid for it and don't want to throw anything out even though you won't use it.

how long would it take to build up a good collection of quality brand products if you set aside £18 a month ?

yet more unnecessary crap to part joe public from his money

theres no contract, so if you get a box and think its a ripoff then you dont buy anymore, there is often money off vouchers if you do like a product to get a bigger bottle.

could work out cheaper than spending £15 or more on 1 hyped up product recomended on a forum and then finding out its no better than the stuff in poundland

How hard is it to go on a popular detailing forum and find out from the pro's i.e the people who clean cars professionally what's worth using. Your logic is flawed and that subscription is simply a waste of money.

I get better FREE samples when I buy my detailing stuff online.

all you get from them is what is the latest trend, some people come away more confused over what's best for them than before they looked on there.

if you think its a rip off you don't buy it any more.... except you've paid out £18 to be ripped off, thats money you won't get back.

the vouchers in these things are not always for the products that come in the box sometimes that are for completely different products from different brands or they are something else entirely.... 2 free graze box's

with reguards to working out cheaper ?

OK so you've spent your £18 on a box of stuff and in that box is one product you like (a 50ml bottle of wax or something) and you have your 10% off voucher so you buy the bigger bottle of wax at £15 minus your 10% voucher and your big bottle of wax has cost you £13.50 + a Waxybox @ £18 so your bottle of car wax was a bargain at £31.50

Now you could buy something on personal recommendation and not like it maybe its harder to work with or leaves a lot of dust who knows but at least you've only spent £15 and you can still use the product once generally speaking if someone is personally recommending something you could always ask them if they would let you try a bit.

Then what about if you want to try a glass polish, there might not be one in the box and you don't know what you will get till you get it, you might have to wait 3-4 months before you get a glass polish... then you don't like it... or you do like it and there is no voucher for that product so you still have to pay full price and nothing else they have sent is of any interest either so you're £72 out of pocket for 4 months worth of these boxes and no better off than you were to start with and you've only tried one glass polish so you've not really go any basis for a comparison.

in these boxes there is a very good chance you will only see the latest trends or just the latest products doesn't mean any of them are any good and you won't know till you've paid your own money to find out

You are paying them money to market products to you that you may not even be interested in.

you are putting your hand up and saying not only do you not know what you want but also that you need to be told whats good and that you have money to burn on stuff that you don't really need

going back to your point about buying something recommended on a forum on the internet, thats exactly what you are doing but you don't yet have any experience of the product you're recommending !?

Strange as i discovered a 5l car shampoo on that site i assume you referring to which is £5 a bottle

it cleans it foams up well and its dilution is good for the price.....

to be fair its all i have used all winter and just got another 5l....

(turtle wax big orange)

In still a advocate of Autoglym super resin polish and the like detailing is not just brand snobbery its knowing how best to use a particular product.. it far eclipses the likes of meguires step 1 paint cleanser and step 2 polish and lime prime.....

they are even off mad for a basic liquid car wax (simonize) and in the past few months even Mer has had its reputation raised

Im all for nice products but more often than not there is some off the shelf at most motor shops products able to give the average home user a finish to be proud of which lasts.....

have you got first hand experience one of these boxes? if not maybe you best stick to the forum rules.

I have a demo box that i will be taking to meets i attend.

i'm not putting my hand up to any thing, i am going buy what people have said in the past they have ended up doing.

Forum Rules
"You may not use discussions to recommend, praise, or belittle other products or services, or any company; without first hand experience of those products or services."

However I was giving a general overview of how these Box based programs work (something I have first hand experience of)

If you have a Demo Box does that not make you a representative of the company that produce these boxes? I'm pretty sure that then falls under the forum's Trade advertising rules

'A user MAY NOT post links or recommendations to themselves UNLESS they have signed up as an official trader' ;)

and a pack of cloths 10 for £10
http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/yellow-microfibre-cloths-multi-purpose-pack-of-10.php

=£120

So for £160 you can have a half decent cleaning kit (ive used all the above)

things that require dilution can vary on results depending on the quality of the water people dilute with.

likewise 15ml of wax might be enough to do a car

but dependent on the ambient temperature/ rel humidity (gassing off of VOC carriers varies) so sometimes it spreads further than others

surface temperature

The Porosity of the paint,

Application method (foam / microfibre pad/ hand/ cloth)

Coating vicosity (how much soaks into the applicator / how easy it spreads)

and the man at the end of the arm who decides what is a thin coat....

I'm a fan of the concept and have just received my second box. IMO it's a great way of trying products without paying full price, if I don't like a product then I don't feel I've wasted too much or have the hassle of selling on a part used product. Of the 10 samples and waxes received they've all been great.
