I plan to whip the alloys off my 500 this weekend and replace them with the (brand new) winter tyres and steelies that I had delivered to me recently.

I plan on running them without wheel trims and wondered if it is worth doing anything to protect either the wheels or the tyres (apart from not letting my wife near any kerbs)?

Thanks in advance.

i'd be more concerned about the tyres your going to lay up for the winter......

Clean them (rims and tyres really well) use all purpose cleaner on the tyres (not a strong mix)) and a decent alloy cleaner on the wheels and ideally wax them

ensure they are dry then dress the tyres with a tyre shine type product (all over) to help protect the rubber

and store on a tire tree ideally in a cool dark Dry place.....

then come spring clean the contact area with APC again to remove the tyre dressing and drive with care for a few miles till it scubbs off

look here they are on offer

paid about £10 for mine form lidl a couple of years ago least stored on that they take up less space air can get round them and there is no risk of making your alloys

Brilliant - thank you Andy. I was wondering what a "tyre tree" was...

The tryes will be stored in the garage where space is at a real premium - I was just going to stack them on the floor on top of each other. Is there really much of an advantage to having them separated by this device?
