I've not done it, but see the attached instructions from elearn:

These three explain how to remove the glass and the motor behind it, while it is the external plastic panel I want to remove...

Edit: After re-reading the one titled "mirror cover" it looks like I will be in a position to detach the cover after I first remove the glass and then the motor. Is this the way you understand it too? That's really stupid if that's the case, I was hoping I can just pull the cover and some retainers behind will unclick...

I think if you just pull on it, either you can't get a good enough grip, or you'll break the retainers. The "right way may be more trouble, but presumably safer.

Looks like you just pull it off much like the Grande Punto. Just make sure it's work. Less chance of breaking the clips.
