Air recirculation acuator

Recently I have been driving with some serious misting issues with the recent wet weather . I have the auto climate control system and everything is fine when the air con is running but this shuts off when the outside temperature drops to a certain level and my car starts to most . The demist function doesn't work but I found that when I set the temperature to 'lo' and pressed for outside air to come into the cabin I get warm air from in the cabin . This leads me to thinking I either have a dead motor or stuck flap . So my question is how easy is it to get to the recirculation motor and where would I find it , is this quite a common issue ?

Tom .

Re: Air recirculation acuator

Its a relatively easy fix, takes less than half an hour...

Remove wipers and scuttle panel. You will see the inlet to the heater in the middle just under the windscreen. I ended up tying mine open and was no problem for the next 2 years we had the car

See this thread...

Re: Air recirculation acuator

I should add that to replace the motor assembly is a dash out job, so we left it open....

That's great thanks , will have a look today . Though I think it'll have to be temporary and I will need the new assembly . If the motor is fine is there a mechanism that breaks on the flap ?

Re: Air recirculation acuator

Just to check, you have always got air recirculate to fresh air in I take it?

If on recirculate then it will mist up and this is your issue

Re: Air recirculation acuator

Yes usually the AQS controls this. Although as something is broken the car is stuck on recirculating the humid air inside the cabin and I can't get any air from outside in the cabin. The problem goes away when its warm enough outside for the AC to kick in and dehumidify the cabin air. Confusing I know!

Iirc the motor was still ok the plastic connector that connected the flap to the motor had broken. I think a temporary fix is sufficient. As I said I opened the flap and it stayed open. A few weeks later I had another look and it. Was still open, but to make sure igot some gardening wire and 'tied' it open. I didn't miss being able to close the flap at all over the next 18 months or so we had the car. To fix I think the dash would have had to come out

Re: Air recirculation acuator

Correct me if i'm wrong but does the Bravo use the same system as the Stilo did, Or identical? Found this thread which seems to show the location of the flap/motor I am thinking is the suspect

Re: Air recirculation acuator

I had the equivalent drawing of the Bravo system and that looks similar (though couldnt tell you if it is identical or not).

Did you take the scuttle panel off?

Re: Air recirculation acuator

Yes I found that the flap was shut so I have opened it but not secured it yet (is it pretty stable as it is for now?)

Now to fix the damn thing , the motor sounds fine so I think it's a gear linkage/broken flap connection

Well mine stayed open for the few weeks I left it. I just tied it open and forgot about it, would have cost me a good few hundred to have fixed (labour costs mainly)

Using the air conditioner should help you out in regards to bad fumes getting into the car instead of using recirc.

I can't see how, but the pollen filter should to a fairly good job of removing most of the crap.

I can't say I'd have said the air recirculation feature is that important, people AC people drove around with windows down etc without issue, with all manner of stuff in the air coming into the cabin.
