In the space of the 15miles journey home tonight the car has developed a bad rattle which appears to be coming from the gearbox area. Too dark to see anything of course (and cold!) but it rattles at tickover, not all the time but when it does it sounds like the proverbial bag of spanners. Running at just over tickover (about 1200 -1500 rpm) stops it. Clutch seems to be working fine and the gearbox is OK - notchy as usual but OK. Car also seems just the same when out on the road, no unusual vibrations.
So is it the DMF or has something come loose, or is that a forlorn hope?
We were to take our caravan off this weekend so I reckon thats a no-no, unless I risk it and if it does give up I always have my AA recovery!

Yes sounds like DMF to me :(

When ours went it was after a long journey, pulling up in a hotel car park in Calais. Sounded like a 50p piece in a tumble drier...! It also went away, and we used the car with no issues for another few thousand miles. Ours had done 130k or so miles at the time...
