Hello there

I recently bought a 2000 bravo 1.2 sx with 37k on the clock which wasnt driven from 2007 after doing timing belt and service it was safe to start but some times it starts up at 1500rpm which is fairly normal and drops to 1100 when cold and 800 when warm.

Every two or three startups seems to drive the rpm to 2500 whether hot or cold so far
i changed coolant temp sensor and lambda and done ecu reset with FES also tryed another throttle body but made no difference .:bang:

any ideas will be much appreciated

Did you get any fault readings/codes with FES (probably should be upgraded to MES, as it may have more functionality...) before you reset the ECU? It might be worth code-reading; and doing a live data trace, to see what's happening....

I presume there is also one lambda -- and that it's going to closed loop, once warm. I just wondered, if, for some reason, occasionally (a short circuit, or a dodgy connection...?), the lambda is taking longer to warm up -- maybe caused by its integral heater circuit...? To be honest, it's late, and I'm scratching my head... -- variable faults really are a pain to get your head around.... :bang:

I'm also hoping/presuming that you used new petrol, and not the stuff that's been sat in the tank for seven years -- as it's probably quite degraded by now. Also: did you clean the throttle body you put in? Does it have an Idle Air Control valve built into it (or is it 16v and 'fly-by-wire'...)? These can stick: but then I wouldn't have thought the fault would replicate across two different throttles.... :chin:

Finally: how are the plugs and leads? Were they replaced when it was serviced...?

Hopefully, someone more awake will come along, later; with their brain switched on. Good luck...! (y)

There is was no faults showing up but in data reading the coolant temp was showing -36C so i changed the coolant temp sensor now its showing normal temp lambda was switching between 0.1 and 0.8 .

I changed the leads and plugs and cleaned the throttle body and map sensor but no difference there was no petrol in the tank when i got it as the pump was removed and the tank was dry .

Hi, I've recently got my 2001 1.2 Brava running well after a few problems, but not exactly what you're reporting. Your car has 2 lambdas, a pre-cat (most important) and post-cat (mainly checks the cat performance). Eventually I found that the sensors had been swapped over and the post-cat lambda was beiing corrupted by an upstream airleak (cracked weld in manicat downpipe).

Sensor issues do screw up these otherwise great engines, but they are tricky to track down.

It seems like you have a temperature issue, you've made a start changing the sensor. With the car standing so long I'd give the coolant system a monster flush through and refill with good 50-50, and change the stat for a decent one as well. Bleeding is quite easy but important (remove gurgles from the heater matrix).

There is also a full reset / learning procedure for the throttle and ECU system, at some stage you could try that. Also possible air leaks around inlet breathers etc?

The car should just start smoothly to 800-900 rpm, no revving, hunting, or other messing about.
