Technical Help! engine/injector light on dashboard

Hi!
Sorry about the lack of technical knowledge but i am new to this and need some help. The orange injector light has come up on the dashboard of my brava 51 plate 1.6 ELX. In the manual it says you can continue on your journey etc, but i can't get to a garage until the weekend to get it checked out. I travel 80miles a day to and from work, so thats 160 miles before i can get to a garage, will i be ok travelling that far without getting it checked out or should i borrow my boyfriends car till then?
Sorry for being a typical clueless girl, but i'd love some advice

ok, normally before you strike the car up, i leave it on the 2nd turn for 3-4secs and then start it. does the injector light come back on when the car starts? it should go off in 5 secs when the ignition is on

It stays on the whole time, doesn't go off at all whereas it used to be on just while turning the key and then it went off like the rest of the dash lights

the only thing i can think of is to replace the injectors, if you say its on all the time.

hi my bravo has had this issue since i got it, it used to be constant then i ran sum redex through with my petrol now it comes on n off as it pleases but its more off than on now

redex is mr musle for ya car if ya like avaible from tesco petrol station about £4.50 put £10 petrol in pure have bottle in n then put another £10 petrol in, repeat few days later also try not to run low on fuel in the future as this cause crap bulit up to be pulled through cloging injectors etc ope that helps if ya find the cause let us no please.

I'm no expert but if the engine management light has come on, the idea is to take it into the garage where they can read the "fault code" to see what the problem is. It could be very minor. There's plenty of debate about those redex additives but can't hurt I suppose. Drive gently, like you've got your granny aboard, until you know what's causing the light, that's the main thing.

the engine managment light is a spanner shaped light and the injectors are a funny shape cant quite describe it lol but if its a spanner id seek expert advise asap but if its the other try redex and c wat happens nothing to major proberbly jus be a clogging sum wer, seek a garages opinion if unsure but id defo give redex ago if noticed a improvement in general since i have done it and i will repeat every couple of months jus to keep it running through smoothly as i tend to run low on fuel often i no i shunt do this but times are hard lol .

That's intriguing. I think my mgmt light is combined with the injection light (a petrol pump nozzle logo). I read that this pump logo was replaced with an engine logo on later models but that spanner logo you describe does sound familiar, though I don't think I've got one of those. I must go and look at the book...

this might be possible but on mine i can c the outline of the spanner aybe its worth jus having a look. i havent got a rev counter in myn which is pants lol 98 model

hey cheezy, isnt yours a 1.4 ? in my 1.6 i have the injector light instead, i dont believe i have a spanner

This is great news. Mine's a 98 also (but an sx), and with its own problems (see other thread about the sticky throttle switch) so I'll be very heartened if it turns out I've got a spanner logo that's never needed to show itself! I'm off out to have a search with the torch now..

Turns out there's no spanner logo on my one. There are some logos which are present on the dashboard but have no lights installed behind them (e.g. the wee coil for diesel models). I suppose the same dash unit is shared by different models.
They did a wee redesign midway through 98. I remember cos I once bought a petrol cap that was for the wrong half of the year. The spanner must've been in the newer (?) version I reckon.

The injector light is the ECU error light on these cars. If the light shows it means the ECU has detected an error, error codes can be read from the ECu.
