155 HGT gutless till 3000rpm

hi guys injector light came on my bravo hgt a week ago, booked it in for a diagnostic and spent a day cleaning out the air intake all the way up to the inlet manifold,, ie throttle body and everything came out and got cleaned spotless,, now obviously having the battery reset the ECU and when fired up the injector light stayed off and doesnt show up now,, but its gutless till around 3000rpm and if you try and rev it from idle theres a huge flat spot thats actually embarasing so i try not to let anyone hear how bad it is,, ie pull away really slowly,,, under engine braking engine backfires massively,, dont mind it that much coz it sounds good but is this normal,,cheers for reading and any help would be a great push in the right direction as that southend on sea show is coming up and need to be there,, revs come down really slow too after u finally rev it hard whilst stationary,,, ps i cleaned everything with WD 40 and made sure it was dry cleaned before re assembly,, not running rich or anything as plugs are burning really well,,

hi man thanks for that got it all in pieces again need to find out the range for the maf sensor... ohms wise... as for plugs and coils all is good plugs are burning beautifully ... got a straight through going onto it in prep for NOS at the end of the month,, getting some head work done on it hi performance valves and that.. cheers for your reply .. will let u know wats happening with the problem

right round some info that the sound proofing under the bonnet could be blocking the air intake so took it orr from under the bonnet as well as the whole intake setup right up to the air box,,, got a ram air flexi hose coming to rplace,,, reset the ecu for the ummpteeenth time and bobs your uncle lovely stuff,,,
one question tho,,, on the maf sensor body,, theres some sort of mesh as well as a black plastic sort of cheese grater sorta thing,, i assume these regulate the air turbulance before the air hits the maf sensor not too sure so some clarithy would be great,,,

Hi again,

The mesh inside the MAF is simply to filter out anything that might get in there.

yh maf is in the correct way i did take it out of the housing by taking out those two screws... go my new exhaust today for the hgt and it looks good,, proof is in the pudding tho... got a wix air filter quite cheap just to mess around with,,, and the 5 pot cant even pull air through it its sooo solid proper **** and will be complaining to the manufacturers,, not that i care really..cheers for suggestions guys,,
great network here,, is anyone going to southend on the 13th march for the get together on the seafront

hi all
got that sudden foot down massive flat spot agian
does anyone have any ideas.. im starting to think tooth out on timing because the other day when i reset the ecu and changed a few things around everytime one particular cylinder would fire there would be a bang of some kind for the engine,,, checked for anything inside cant see much stuck a magnet down to see if it would catch annything ,, nothing also, shes running very lean and thats prob the best idea in my mind right now about this problem.. maf is clean as is throttle body, everything is in the right way,,iv checked all the likely places for an air leak that would cause sucking but found nothing

getting a bit sick of ripping it all apart to get the throttle body out time after time,,
would the angine do this if the oil level was too high maybe..
plugs are burning white brown and missfires have stoped all together
exhaust is now on opted to leave cat and 1 mid silencer on bcoz it was just defeaning lol
pls guys any help would be great, even if you think its probably not

oh yh and quick one theres orange spark coming from the ignition coils if earthed which looks pretty weakbut is this normal from coils cheers

4 days later

after putting in a new airfilter the car idles poorly and then dies as the revs fail car doesnt have the flat spot anymore but is runniing very rich and plugs are very sooty and black

finally after an ecu reset and a bit more tinkering the car runs perfectilly then 30 seconds later goes straight into limp home mode
switch the car off and restart it and it repeats itself with safe mode again
after 30 seconds.. it only does this if the revs fall to idling.. on a run straight from starting it wont go into safe mode and is a dream to drive all the power you would expect from a 155

revs still falling really slowly and theres a big flat spot upon flooring it initially.. im beggining to think its slipped a tooth or something maybe

nah i havent had it read yet probably just going to put it on the dyno and see wat shes pumping out then put my cams in re grind the valve seats then re mapped and see whether the remap get rid of the horrible flat spot,, and also got a set of injectors being re conditioned,, anyone know about an fse power boost valve to get ride of this bottom end flat spot cheers for the reply adrian

i realy can't see the sence in tunning or modifying a car with a known fault on that has illuminated the fault code light the faults are storred for 40 or so key ons if the fault has gone if it remains intermitent it could have the light off but still keep resetting the error counter

i realy think you should find out what it is cos those cars do not have flat spots when there right they pull from nothing to 7k like a train
 
well guys finally got this problem sorted out,,,, new maf sensor and its right as rain.... pulls like a train as said before,,,, cheers for all the help and advice

excelent i was just working on another maf injected car with your exact problems and turned out to be a faulty maf just outside of range but i guess you got there first(y)
 
yh got the new sensor for a steal aswell 40 pound new from fiat dealer...
wont tell you how *wink wink*** will be posting up modding updates on this thread aswell as pictures.. does anyone want a near full hgt leather interior minus front seats and front belts and front door panels ,,, everything else is stripped out of my 155 and in very good nick.. rear seats are imaculate
