hi all, the last few days my handbreak light has been coming on when turning left, topped up brake fluid yesterday and had to top up again today.. also when on a hill with handbreak on it only seems to catch on the left rear (rolls back and up on left side)
would it just be break shoes needed?? cheers for any help...

have a look at each wheel inside
look under car at wheel if its wet then you have a leaking slave cylinder if it is a leaking cylinder you must repair and replace brake shoes even if they have plenty of linning left on then
as brake fluid will disolve glue and linning will come off

hi thanks for replys, do i need slave cylinder or brake cylinder?? or are they the same thing??noticed fluid this morning only from right rear,

is that not advertising:rolleyes:

you need replace both rear wheel cylinders if one goes the others not far behind and your shoes also wouldn't go a miss one side will be contaminated

the shoes should be identicle to the ones on the car there are varients so you might have the wrong ones as you say for abs as yours does not have it

it was metal to metal inside the drum, alot of mess mixed with brake fluid,
just seen the shoes on shop 4 parts and it's the ones with abs that are on my car, where on the car would i look to see if it is abs??

it was an option or fitted to special editions you want to look under the bonnet for a large alluminium block with a plastic ecu bolted to it behind the battery tray it has 6 brake pipes coming from it 4 for each wheel and 2 form the master cylinder over to the other side of the engine bay were the brake pedal and servo is

the dash i had before never showed abs warning light but since i changed that the abs light is on,
got shoes from livi autoparts but they dont have a plate where the handbreak cable goes in to, i took them back but he said i need to take the plate off the old one then put it on new shoe, but it's a rivited bolt and dont see how i can remove this to use in the new one.

Normally you may only get new arms when you buy an expensive set, or originals from Fiat themselves perhaps. It is normal practice to have to remove the arms from both shoes and then re-fit them to the new ones. They are normally held on the shoes by a star washer that is pushed over the shaft from the rear. You might have got new star washers in the kit, or you will have to buy new ones, or if you are lucky you can get the orginals of without snapping them - but thats what normally happens to me!

got 2 locking washers with new shoes, but the bolt that were on the car was mushroomed at the end so had to drill a bit to get the arm off, got the arm on new shoe but it's a bit loose it dont come off though, will it be safe to use??

Brakes are the most important safety object on any car.
Unless you're absolutely a professional, stay away from them, and let ONLY skilled mechanics work on them.
If you have to ask here if it is safe what you are doing, I hope my 6 year old son NEVER comes close to were you are driving........!!!

You dont say peter!! That is why im asking the questions and for your info i have done brakes several times before (and guess what they worked )i was just unsure about the set-up of rear shoes as the ones i bought are different from the ones on the car and the people selling them did'nt have a clue, ow and is this not what the site is about??????????????
