Hi all,

I have a (possibly) dead alternator on my 1996 1.8 16V Brava.

I have been told that there are 3 models of alternator that could be fitted, supplying different current.

1) How do I find out which one I need (I cant see it without a ramp)
2) It is the 1.8 16V ELX with NO Air-Con so does that have a bearing on which unit to fit?

If you private message me your chassis number i'll see if i can find the part number for you for the alternator that you need. Then when you goto a motorfactors they'll be able to use the fiat part number to find you an alternative one they have in stock. At the moment there are 3 to choose from.

Fiat parts catalogue (ePER) shows 2 alternators for the 1.8 MPI 16v Brava without A/C.

Part number 46428729 upto engine number 429294
Part number 46448433 from engine number 429294

Both are 65amp whereas cars with A/C have an 85amp alternator.

I am going to take it out on Friday to see if I can't repair it else get a recon one.

FYI the torque for one of the bolts is 70Nm and I'm not liking my chances of getting it out if it's been in there 10 years... any tips on removing an alternator??

Fiat have given me a part number of 46428729 but cannot tell me the amperage.

From ebay I think its the 85 - 100 Amp model but am not 100% sure, can anyone advise.

Car is P reg Brava 1.8 16V ELX - NO AIRCON

It'll probably be 85AMP. Just take that part number to a motorfactors and they'll locate you a pattern alternator or you can get a refurbed one.
