Technical Main Headlights Stopped Working

Bloody hell! We have had at least 3 people with exactly the same problem on the Bravo Forum in the last week alone! :(

I'll see if I can find the posts and get the answer (if there was one).

OK. Looks like people have ruled out fuses, bulbs and relays without solving it. Suspect that this means it's a stalk problem fella. :(

If I see owt else I'll let you know.

Dammit! Stalks cost a bit right? Well, luckily it's well lit around where i live. but its certainly not ideal!

It started out i remember a bit back now, they would be on, then i would turn on the indicator and they would cut out. Turn lights off and on again, they would work, but indicator killed them again...

Now just nothing... boo ****ing hoo! :D

That really does sound stalk related fella. :(
I think the stalks are circa £200 too. :(:(

Check on ebay though as there was a set available from a Marea. Don't think they sold so they should be on again soon. If not, try taking the stalks apart and cleaning up the connections with a bit of WD40. Worked a treat on my old car. :)

Working on car parts (runs away scared :)) - however i have a mate who does that sorta thing, maybe i'll get him to have a looksie... but there's no way i'm paying £200!!

Worst case can i just rewire the sidelights to mainbeam? ;)
Should have thought so. Just make sure that the fuses are the same rating for head and side lights.

As for working on the stalks it really is quite simple. Just a few small screws and you''ll have access to the connectors.

I've had a similar prob for a while, where the lights wouldn't switch from dip to main (pushing forward), but they would flash (pulling back). Its surprising how awkward it is to drive and keep the light switch held in place at the same time. According to my Haynes manual the switch unit is an all in one construction and you have to take off the steering wheel to get at it. What the? Then I accidentally found that the fault would clear if I switched the lights off, then back on - another tricky manoeuvre in the dark. And now it seems to have cured itself altogether. I bet only Fiats do this, and I bet it fails again just before the MOT.

Any car that has dodgey connections will do this guy. Fiats history of dodgey electrics comes from when they used to rust in 5 mins flat (so I'm told). As the rust ate away at the earthing points the electrics start to play up. As the Bravo/a etc. are fully galvinised this is no longer an issue.

However, those are the classic symptoms of a loose or corroded connection. get 'em cleaned!!! :)

Wehey ive never been able to help before! Im 19 and have a 1.6 16v bravo. I had the same prob with the head lamps. heres what i did... the new stalks cost about Stg200 so i went down to a scrap yard and found the shelves with all these stalks, after half an hour of tossing bits nd pieces around i found a set of bravo 16 16v stalks. (They HAVE to match or will not fit the steering rod thingy). After taking the horn out of the steering, taking off the steering wheel, unplugging and pulling out the old stalks nd replacing with the new ones (remember to insert the onld blue blinker from the old set into the new device) and putting the steering back on everything was back to normal. And it only cost me Stg 35. :D

OR

If you dont find the rod thingies...go to an electrition...ask him to add an extra switch hanging out of the bottom of the wheel that turns on the brights (the problem is in the brights, if u get those sorted the rest will all work fine) this is a good inexpensive alternative.

Happy driving. c ya.

I'm one of the other unlucky sods this has happened to, not got a cure but a work-around. Open your bonnet and disconnect full beam bulbs, then drive with full beam on and you'll get sidelights and main beam only :)
just be careful indicating as you might knock the stalk to off :(
I leave my fogs on just incase this happens, so the only disadvantage is you look like a prick for having your fogs on :p
