New to forum folks but have a big problem. I have a 2001 Bravo 1.6. While I was idle in traffic the other day the temp needle nearly went off the gauge. Limped home and checked the fan which was worked when I wired in 12v. I figure it is the thermostatic switch which is not turning the fan on. I want to replace it but am not sure what it looks like or where it is. From looking at the engine it looks like it is on a heater hose coming out the back of the engine block and is then connected to a blue hose running under the drivers side wing. Is this the thermostatis switch.....???

Thanks in advance..........:)

the fan is switched on by the ecu. it switched the relay on the front of the battery tray to earth the fan. it does this when the coolant temp sensor's signal to the ecu tells it that the coolant is hot.

if your fan didnt come on you should firstly check that it has a live singal, it should alswyas have a live signal at the fan because it is negatively switched.

a common fault is rusty contacts on the relay on the front of the battery tray.

it is not unusual fo rthe tmep gauge to show hot when the temperatue is ok. when that happens the fan doesnt come on because the ecu sees the true signal, but the gauge tells fibs. a good bang of your fist above the gauge can often salve this, although the actual cause is usually an almost dry joint within the instrument cluster.

Thanks for reply, have you any idea were the thermo switch is on the rad on a 2001 1.6. I can't see it anywhere.
