looking though the history, this head was reworked in 2005, it bent 18 of the 20v due to tensioner failure and the cam belt jumping 3 teeth
that isnt uncommon on the 20v, its no big deal.
it is an example of how a repair can be better than replacement even if 18 valves are bent.

. The lawyer said he by his own admition the bloke has racked him self up for a huge fall. The law is cleare on this one, if there car was sold with a fault that was not advertised regardless if the seller new about the fault or didn’t, there still liable

First of all sorry to hear you are having trouble,

i have one question though, how can he be liable for a fault if he didnt know it was there? so was he meant to stip the car down and rebuild it?

next time i sell a car i best get them to sign more than just 'sold as seen' best put it like 'no known faults, maybe faults but i dont know about them and im not a clairvoyant, sold as seen'

why are all his other cars at retail money and this one is at just above trade.
definatlly worth a look though.

It might be that larger engined cars are not worth as much now due to fuel prices and the economy. It is a fact that diesels and small engined petrols are the the only strong sellers at the moment.
thus if you want a hot hatch car then the time to buy one will be soon.

diesel cars have gone up in popularity and sell quickly, where as inefficient petrol cars are not selling very well at all and below the normal market value.

for example
an MG ZT V6 will often go for £2500, where as an equivalent petrol model is £4000. the V6 is a better car all round and last year was more desirable than the diesel, but these days no one wants to pay £400 tax and get 25mpg.

an alfa 156 V6 is almost impossible to sell and you see the same ones listed week after week, but a 156 JTD is rarely on the market for more than a week before it is snapped up.

i can see why it has happened. many people who wouldnt have considered a diesel car last year are now looking for one and wont consider buying another petrol car. times are hard.

let her get one they're great cars. (y)

yeah ok its a bit inconvenient replacing the head gasket once a year, but it only costs a couple of hundred quid and other than that they're solid little cars that hide their aged roots very well and drive nicely. plus they're bloody bargains these days.

not the reply you wanted i know, meh

I think it being a Rover and having to replace the head gasket each year would put me off. It is uncomfortable to drive and the interior is cheap. Also as Parkers says 'mutton dresses as lamb'. LOL

It is also high on the insurance aswell for a 1.4 being group 9.

Hmmm.... I think on this one occasion I will ignore the Jugster....

Crap cars... head gasket shouldnt be an issue FFS I never had one go in all my life...

Its just a mildly re-worked 200 with loads of oddball failure risks and not a car I want to fix on a weekly / monthly / yearly basis....

Cheers Jug and JoskeJTD (y)

The alloys are not the original/standard HGT ones.

im 99% sure that they were a factory extra. they have fiat stamped all over them
very interesting. i've never seen fiat stamped on a fiat alloy before.
can you post a pic of where fiat is stamped on them?

if they are fiat alloys it is the first time i've ever seen them before.

either way, they're a lot nicer than the standard alloys.
