Hey guys and girls,

Could you tell me how to take the old Fiat tape player out please? I don't want to damage it. I have bought the modified facia, will i need a wiring conversion for the aftermarket head unit to fit it to the cars original wiring? If so where can i get this?

Thank you very much,

Ad.

dont know much to tell you

i had mine changed at a specialist

i put on a clarion mp3 player and everything seemd to work fine

changed the speakers tweeters and added an amplifier under the passenger seat and also a subwoofer

if you want details just let me know

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, did you fit the aftermarket speakers yourself? What is the type of speaker you replaced them with i.e. coaxial or components? How do you get the old stereo out? Im going to get a kenwood mp3 player head-unit and some better speakers but i prefer doing things myself from now on as ive had some terrible I.C.E. work carried out by a well known company who i shall not name. Doing things yourself is much more cost effective and if you are good with your hands, fun! Thanks again,

Ad.

Hello!
You have a B from X 2000?
I assume you have a built in clarion radio-cassete player? the one with RDS and full logic?
you will have to remove the rubber stripes on the sides of the radio, then you need a special clarion tool to remove the radio - ask some friends with clarion radios, or the nearest car audio garage, they should have it
you slide the radio out with the clarion tools and voila - you can place a new radio.
if you have the B with fiat sub, then its connected as the rear speakers through the ISO
good luck (y)
p.s. hope I said it clearly enough.. if not then I can post some photos..

Hi All

I am thinking of upgrading my CD player to one that will play mp3s. If I get it fitted at the shop do they need my red key?

Also, it appears that the last person who had the car had a subwoofer. There is a small clarion unit stuck under the steering wheel that doesn't do anything but there are still wires from it that I think come out under the passenger seats. Is this something I can get them to attach new speakers to?

Thanks everyone for all your help!

Shel

Theres no connection between the stereo system and and the Red Key, it is only used to re-programme spare keys so as long as the shop fitting the stereo has an ignition key to test it you'll be fine.......

Very difficult to say without seeing the car, going on your recent wiring fiasco I would be cautious!!

You should be able to use the existing wiring but not knowing how its setup or what it was used for in the past you could find yourself struggling with redundant wires. If you are looking to get a decent setup for your b I would be tempted to re-wire using decent grade speaker wire.......all depends how much you are going to spend...........

If your stuck for the removal tools. I have a set of them here that I can send to you F.O.C. but knowing what the post is like at the moment it may take 1 to 2 weeks to arrive. Have recently removed the clarion head unit and upgraded to a nice JVC mp3/ USB unit with nice polished aluminium trim plate to hide the screw holes and some trendy sony speakers.. had to drill extra attachment holes for them though

While on the subject of speakers... Has anyone got a passenger side door tweeter and trim that they would like to sell...??

Instead of using proper removal tools I just used two snipped-off pieces of coathanger bent into U-shapes to get my factory-fitted head unit out. My B's from 12/96 though, sounds like it was an older model (tape player one) than the one found in the rest of the Bs mentioned here.

DR: In a few weeks (or possible before) I need to finish sorting out my car speakers...i've put the big speakers in the doors but still have to fit the tweeters and crossovers. Anyway I'll have two factory-fitted tweeters going spare then. I still need my trim though obviously. Or you might be best off getting in touch with the guy on ebay.co.uk who's breaking a whole B down...

here's the link

I have a tweeter and trim knocking about that I am not using anymore so you can have it if you want it Desert Rat. How does £15 + postage sound. Thats what I paid for it if I remember correctly.

FYI: This is not a selling post, I am just offering as a fav to a B owner. (y)

Thanks Jiggy. I Know I could glue the tweeter into the old trim that I have but would prefere to keep things in origional condition... Damn this hot weather, it eats plastic n rubber.... thanks for the ebay link too... unfortunatly he never replied....

Doc if you still have that tweeter n trim available i'd be willing to give them a new home, have sent you a pm.
