Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of trying to bring my Barchy back to life and am on the lookout for an original cassette radio. Does anyone have one lying around? I really don't want to go aftermarket as I want to try to keep it as original as possible.

Thanks,

Nero

This is worth doing imo, because the original radio looks so right in the dash. I use one of those dummy cassette thingies to connect up my iphone. State-of-the-art it isn't, but it does the job.

I have the original radio from my 98. When I received the car from Japan, I knew that the former owner had installed his own high powered system. I removed the heavy shielded copper cables he had left and found the original radio just filling the spot for the stereo hooked to nothing. I have installed my own Kenwood blue tooth system, seeing that the stock unit is useless in Canada. It is in mint condition, I doubt if it has seen much use. However it is a long way from me to you!!:D

Japanese car radio wont work in UK. See description I found by googling Japanese car import radio. Hope this helps.

Radio Band Expanders

The Radio Band Expander (also known as a Wave Expander or FM Frequency Expander) enables the original equipment radio in Japanese import cars (Grey Imports) to receive UK radio transmissions. It achieves this by shifting the UK transmission FM frequencies into the band that the Japanese radio will detect. For example, shifting a UK radio station that transmits at 100MHz by 16 MHz will allow the station to be received by the Japanese Radio at 84MHz.
Japanese radios have a bandwidth of 14MHz (76-90MHz) compared to the UK bandwidth of 20MHz (88-108MHz), hence a certain band of frequencies will be lost in the shifting process. For flexibility there are three variations in the Band Expander range.

I may have a solution, I have a radio that works, however there is a problem. The LCD doesn't work, so as it is, it's useless. Also I don't have a code. Perhaps if you bought the Japanese radio, and used the LCD panel in my radio, the code you can get off the web. Your quite welcome to have my radio, just pay postage.
Leave you to decide.
