'95 to '98: near ECU on B-pillar / passenger footwell (on a lhd car, not sure if it's the opposite side on a rhd car)
(I have yet to find my 3-pin plug here)

'98 to ?: near ECU on bulkhead as shown by JMSG's pictures

And there's even late models (2004-2005?) that has a full size obd2 contact (that doesn't aquire a 3-pin adaptor) located under the seat.

Pic from manual showing 3-pin near ecu on b-pillar / passenger footwell (lhd car) on ->'98 model:

However, the manual also tells wich two pinouts from the ecu this connector should be made up of, so it's probably possible to tap into these two and connect

Re: Where is OBD located on my Barchetta?

Hi Alfa2001,

This gets very interesting. Assuming they go by ISO 9141 (K line) it should be possible to plug to the K-line pin (23).

Now, as I went through various sources, it seems that a protocol conforming with ISO 9141 could be either one wire (K line) or two wires (K line + L line). Since I do not see any hint of the L line maybe it's one wire type.

Also, your last picture shows that pins 13 and 23 are jumpered and the pin out shows them separate. What do you make of that?

This is what I found in some Barchetta Service Manual, unfortunately they do not give specific location. I will have a look later today if it's there somewhere.

Edit: I missed it the first time I went through it. The L line is supposedly there. Could it be the pin 13?

Edit: Another random find on the internet. Seems to be some FIAT standard 07273 that regards implementation of the ISO 9141 standard. The version referenced below is July 1999.

Not sure if we should interpreted it as all vehicles starting from 1997 have ISO 5: K line + G line (ground?) so all before that used to have ISO 8: K line + L line + G line.

What do you guys think?

EDIT:

Finally, empowered by all the information we've shared here I was able to find this plug! The wires colors are exactly like in JMSG's picture: white with red stripe, black and the remaining pin isn't wired. The connector is the 3 pin type as in other Bs. I haven't tried connecting yet, but I will give it a try on the weekend and then I will let you all know the results.

It was not that easy to find it as the wire harness was pushed underneath of the plastic padding so it was practically invisible. Being patient enough it can be found and pulled out. Just trace the wires as they go out of the ECU. Here's the picture as a proof

great job you guys
top info and pic's !
i didn't know there was another type of hitachi ecu in a diferent location

by looking at yours information i think k line is only for diagnosing and comunication L line is for initial programing or remaping (eeprom writing) , G line also think is ground and will be comon .

Image is in the passenger footwell, cable is usually tucked behind the plastic matting probably near the heater outlet.

Re: Where is OBD located on my Barchetta?

exactly the positive in positive and negative in negative(ground) from battery with cables or from lighter in the storage box betwin the seats , you will need some lighter adaptor or cables long enough to reach the battery terminals !!

Re: Where is OBD located on my Barchetta?

If the Barchetta is 2003 onwards then these have the full 16 PIN EOBD connector which is located under the driver's seat behind a flap on the vertical face of the cross chassis "rib".

This connector supports Engine, Air Bag and ABS so there are no longer 3 separate 3-pin connectors scattered around the car/engine bay.

Re: Where is OBD located on my Barchetta?

Some great information there but I tried connecting to all three with a OBD11 hand held scanner and it just keeps coming up with linking error . I know the scanner works on my van and other cars but not on the B. I think Fiat code is inoperative on my B as it had a Sigma m30 alarm fitted when imported 1998.
Can anybody shed some light on this please?
Airbag light been on 6 years now.

Re: Where is OBD located on my Barchetta?

As you are near to me (Dorest / Southampton) then if/when you are over my way then I'm happy to see if I can connect to your "B".

I can connect to our 2005 "B" which has the 16 pin EOBD connector.

I often have to reset the air bag light and this has to be done with a traditional KKL interface and not an ELM/similar based unit.

Note! I do not have a 3-pin adapter so if you need one then you need to bring yours over.

You can PM me to arrange a visit if you want.
Thanks Noideadave thanked for this post

Hi,
Generic handheld scanners won't work with older Fiats. You need to get specific software like Multiecuscan www.multiecuscan.net
The KL or vag-com interface is more suited to the B than the elm327

Absolutely and if the original poster wants to visit me then they will get a good demonstration of MES, have a bit of fun and exchange "B" stories/technical/etc.
