Side lights;

501 quad LED sidelights, significantly brighter than conventional bulbs and not prone to blowing! Not sure of the technical details but they look better than stock bulbs, are brighter and last longer. Lots of them available from lots of eBay dealers.........

Replacement rear side/brake lights;

I have replaced mine with 24 LED side/brake light bulb's, they are no brighter than the original bulb's however the brake light 'on' is virtually instant while there is a very slight delay with conventional bulbs while the element heats up. LED bulbs are also less susceptible to blowing, if an LED stops working you still have the balance working...........

Lots of suppliers on eBay for these types of bulbs.

If you buy those 55s that Doc posted you get the phillips blue vision bulbs (Doc again) free.

Not sure if you could use the two together, but I would presume so if they are giving them both together.

Think I might go down this route.

3300k is very yellow. I have 3400k HID's fitted to match the side lights..they look like very bright standard bulbs. Can't see these dyed blue Phillips bulbs being any good...:(

Must be better than the original muddy brown though:)

I have 6000k HID's, they give off a very white light (almost daylight!), the sidelight bulbs I have fitted are also white LED's but are significantly clearer than filament bulbs. I personally don't like the blue bulb's on the front, look a little bit too 'Max Power' for my taste............

We seem to have a little confusion here regarding K temperatures..

3400k is yellow light, similar in colour to halogen but much brighter.
4600 is yellowish white
6000k is daylight, white light.
8000k is very blue white
10000k is violet / white

Its also a common misconception that a higher K temperature gives brighter light. It doesn't. The 3400K lights are about 20% brighter than 4600K and 50% brighter than 8000k's.

Also as a rough guide anything >8000k is illegal, too blue.

There are also plenty of 'special' HID's in any colour you want. A local Saxo driver around here has purple HID's. Why he hasn't been pulled yet...?

He will!!!

The 6k HID's I have give a very clear light and work well in all ambient light's (dusk, street lights, dark country roads), as RB points out HID's of 3.4 - 6k are the ones that actually give an improved light output and are road legal, any higher and there is a degradation in light output and become blue through to a purple colour!

A note on the NIGHTBREAKERS:
I've got them and i am not impressed. while ther is a bit more white light on the road... it is nowhere near 90% more and 10% more white.
Personally: not impressed
Although could be due to my dodgy nightvision,.. who knows.

Note on Philips Bluevision: as with any non-white sidebulb: illegal in BENELUX

LRB what main beam light do you have?

I have just placed an order for the Osram Night Breaker H1 bulbs but now thinking about it I think i should have gone with the Philips Blue Vision H1 bulbs because these bulbs should match the HID light output better.

I still have stock m/b's but need to replace them, not managed to get around to it yet. Initially was toying with the idea of another HID set but doubt that these would work on the m/b as there is no diffuser. Taking the advice of RnR I think I may go with the Philip's blue visions.....................

I had something similar..Osram silver stars I think they were, supposed to put out 50% more light than standard. Couldn't see much difference, they were whiter (sounds like soap powder ads...) but not worth the huge extra cost. I think they were €22 a pair against €4.99 for standards.

There's two ways to get more light..uprated standard bulbs. I have 100w mains so does LRB? and they haven't melted/fused yet and HID's. if you were really keen you could put HID's in both sides although the reflector in the main beam won't help much.

Yup, but they are std 100w rally bulb's (I know, strictly speaking not for road use but went through the MOT OK!!)..........

Strictly speaking illegal, (construction and use regs state max of 55/60) but unless you are involved in an accident in which the other driver says he was blinded which caused the accident no one will look inc MOT they are only looking at a bulb working and a correct beam pattern.

This goes on to another point, all mods really need to be put past the insurance company inc HID's etc. When insuring my Panda for the charity trip to Istanbul they stated that the sponsorship stickers were a mod and wanted to cancel the current policy (they had seen the panda on a website)

So it's up to you if you want to involve them or not but I have to advise that you do, no matter how small the mod. They will later if they can cancel their liability if you are involved in an accident.

I'm getting a bit confused by all the light chat.......yes, I am stupid when it comes to cars:eek:

Really want to get a new set of lights for a very early morning trip down south next week. My headlights are truely awful. I actually hate night driving with them (although another dose of PlastX will be on the cards).

My mechanic is happy to fit them for free when I am due to take the car in next week for a service.

Just getting a bit wobbly in the head. Am I right in thinking that the main beam and dipped beam is coming form the same the same bulb? Just the trajectory is changed when switching from dipped to full. This is always the way I have thought it worked.

Sorry for the ridiculous question. I've actually never had to change bulbs before in my life.

Hi
No the Barchetta has two 3 bulbs in the head light, the parking bulb, the dipped headlight and the main beam. Dipped is the light you drive with all the time and the main beam is the one you use on dark country lanes.

Check out power bulbs and once you find what you are looking for go on ebay and get them for a few ££ less.
