General Superspotter's Barchetta Project,well Doc's done it....

I thought it was about time that I started to get stuck into my B as it were I bought it at the end of March this year and apart from the alloys, hoops, different stereo and painting the cam cover oh, and the strutbrace, I have not done anything so here I am going to portray what I am doing al la Doc
So, this afternoon I made a small start. I sprayed the battery clamps in my favourite colour

Next week I will be fitting two gauges, an oil pressure gauge and an oil temperature gauge. I think I will be putting these dials either attached to the central console on the passenger side or attached to the plastic cover underneath the airbag again on the passenger side. I will post pics of course.

Then onto the braking system. Grooved discs are on their way to me along with greenstuff pads front & rear, goodrich stainless hoses and the calipers will be coming off and getting a coat of my favourite colour

I will also be investing in a GSR induction kit and I am contemplating going down to Oldschool to let him remap the ecu to take advantage of the induction kit.

It's about time I started to get some use out of my investment in all my tools

I meant to add that I have no intention of moving the battery to the rear like Doc for two reasons. Firstly I dont see any reason to as I dont intend to be throwing it around a racetrack and am not concerned about weight distribution and secondly, it looks like far too much work
I think Doc's reason was to free up room in the engine bay?? but I am sure the GSR induction kit will fit with the battery in it's natural habitat
I wouldnt mind finding a yellow battery though

Geeze supperspotter - that is a serious toolkit, I had one like that when I was an apprentice mechanic but they were stolen, soon after I gave fixing trucks and never replaced them!!!

BTW, it is a trick of the light or have you actually painted in inside of your shed YELLOW!!!!

Must be a trick of the light because I have not painted it yellow honest As for the toolbox...Snap-on and Mac send me Xmas cards..........
I think it might be the same colour as your tin of cuprinol in your pic

Regrding the two oil gauges I am about to install, I have been deliberating as to where to put them. I dont like the idea of actually "spoiling" the interior of the B with aftermarket addenda but I think that these two dials are a good investment, especially as I like to drive in a "spirited" manner
First thought was underneath the dash behind the steering wheel but this was quickly eliminated as you would only see the when the steering wheel was turned. Another option that immediately sprang to mind was the top of the dashboard but again, quickly eliminated as unsightly. Maybe one of these A pillar mounts? No, because it being a small car, they would be right in your face. So, the only place left that I can think of is the right side of the central console either attached to the console one above the other or attached to the plastic trim underneath the passenger airbag side by side. I wanted the smallest dials I could find which would be 52mm ones but in the end I have bought 60mm ones as they are a matching pair and I like their dial faces. They are of the type that are smoked faces until you turn the ignition on and can then see the dials.
Any thought on their location people??

What about down by the almost useless rubbish tray? Or replace the clock while your there?

I'm intrigued about the GSR kit as I couldn't see much info on their site. It seems to have an intake pipe which is moulded to connect to a cone air filter which would end up sitting under the battery tray, if I've understood correctly. In which case I imagine it doesn't pick up too much heat from the engine, but not really much cold outside air either.

I'm also unsure what happens to the metal body containing the mass air sensor.

From a CDA perspective, you can fit one without moving the battery. I got BMC to send me some pictures on how they did it and I've also found another way as I think theirs is using the smaller unit.

Anyway, good luck with the project, I can't help but feel a little jealous of all those nice tools!

Regarding the GSR induction kit, It seems to me that the guy that supplies them knows his onions so I am quite confident that the kit will be a good move

I dont want to touch the interior in any way, especially removing the clock etc but granted, that ashtray is a waste of time so if I can come up with any ideas for that space I will do!!

Difficult one SS - I actually went outside to sit in my B and figure out how/where I would mount the dials..........have to be honest didn't come up with much.

Only thing that I could think of was to try to get hold of gauges that are the same diameter as the air vents in the middle of the dash then re-route the air-outlets under the dash..............

Just a thought.................

Well actually, it's no big secret. I am going to have these stripes made up for me by my daughters boyfriend who is in the graphics business. I saw this picture on Ivo's website and immediately fell in love with them
Might even be able to take orders in the near future............any colour you like.
