Hi all,
I have just made a few phone calls and decided to not get a 1200 sport:) at £8100.
the abarth:D at £11600 seems much more of a car.
so am i right.
or am i wrong.
opinions please.
I know road tax is more.
and i supose insurance is more.:yuck:
I will do 2 -3000 miles a year.

Different engine, gearbox, suspension, looks and a different interior. Hardly £3500 more car if you would have been happy to go for a 1.2.....

I can't belive I'm about to type this but: if you genuinely are only going to do those little miles you would be far better off with the 1.2, costs, mpg and if the miles are that little the 1.2 is probably going to be far better suited for the journeys it's a great little engine and has far more oomph than you'd think. Things to note the Abarth's insurance is easily going to 2 to 3 times that of the 1.2 the mpg is a little under 2/3rds and the tax is atm £120 more a year and bound to go up oh and like all Italian engines if you don't use it it lets you know about it :).

For once I don't think the Abarth would be the right car, however it's your dosh, you know how much you can afford a year, if that's what you want to sink you money into it's a great little car.

For someone who is even possibly thinking of the 1.2 I certainly agree. If they were getting a 1.4 and the extra poke was valuable then I could see the point but the 1.2 is just fine for pottering around in :)

Thanks for that.
I was getting the 1.2 because the dealer said the 1.4 was not much better:eek:.
I didnt know the abarth was on the scrappage deal.(y)
the car i am scrapping is an:worship::worship::worship: RS2000 150 bhp:cool:.
I like quick little cars. but mostly i like individuality.
payments are the same but over a longer period.
and I feel the abarth will be more desireable in 2 to 3 years.

I'd have thought your RS2000 would have been worth more than £2000, how come you want to scrap such a motor, people are mad for such cars!! (we are talking an old Escort aren't we)

There are various different RS2000's not all of the Mk2 persuasion :)

If its not a mk2 or preferably a mk1 then scrapping it is ok by me (fav's are mk1 twin cam or RS1600 though, I'd be very tempted by a mk2 RS1800 as well) the old pinto motor not exotic enough for my tastes

it is a 94 mk5. :p
1.6 cabriolet with a rs2k:worship: engine box and front end ( bonnet lights etc.)
but its dropped a piston and needs an engine so its worth £300 ish:yuck:
it was 150 bhp now its got no horses at all.(n)(n)(n) but it will get me 2k off a new abarth.

Buy the Abarth if you really wan't one! don't let your head rule your heart. Life's too short to be sensible all the time. If i could afford a new abarth i would have been a fan of them since the early eighties when i had FIAT 131 sport i always wanted the abarth version...

2,000 miles a year?! Hardly seems worthwhile even having a car!

If though you do have the money for an Abarth then go for it.

I work 6 long days a week. and love cars.
I drive a fiat ducato allweek.
I still have another car and a bike.
but they do even less. bike did mot 15 month ago and not been out since.(n)
We never have any money but what the hell
I will try and get a bit of a deal  on one.

Ah work's van... the saviour of the weekend play-thing :D

I think I clocked up about 2-3,000 miles on my Tipo last year. Poor bravo took the hit for journeys to work!

My rs has done a few track days. silverstone especially.
I even got black flagged at snetterton.:(
and 0-60 is 7.4 last month :slayer::slayer:
I have never seen an abarth yet. they must be rare.

If you only consider fuel costs, then the Abarth will only cost you £130 a year more than the 1.2 with 2000 per year!

But you have to consider the bigger cost - depreciation. If i can get £8500 to £9000 for mine in a year or two then i'll be happy because i only paid £9500 for it (£15,170 total but i traded in my Panda)

so far its
abarth 5(y)
sport 2(n)

so now I am looking for the best deal / Dealer.;)
