Hi All,

Am after ordering an ICP-EK004 ignition kit and I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these?

Hello, a couple of months ago I ordered a set for my 850 spider (with a GBC engine). Couldn’t get it to fit alone work. After a bit of a faff I sent my distributor to them and they made a custom made one at no extra charge. This works very well, engine runs better. No complaints about the service either. So if yours doesn’t fit/work there is a solution. If it doesn’t I can supply my order no etc. My problem could have been the non original engine being different. Tim

Hopefully it fits in one swoop. Apparently it's on the way to me here in Ireland but with everything that is going on in the UK I don't know when it will land with me!

Hi Gav, just a bit more info. The chap who answers the phone is just sales. The engineer is Peter who is very helpful. He had to make a special baseplate for the sensor to fit on. He made a batch of 50 so if you do need one like mine it shouldn’t be a problem. When I did get the unit it was very easy to fit. Best of luck and have a good Christmas. Tim

Thanks for all the info Tim. Just waiting for the postman and then we should be away.

Need to retorq the head and set valve clearances and hopefully we will be back on track.

I put Millers M50 oil in it but I think it's too heavy, very hard to start so I'm going to go over to halfords vintage 20w50 and see if that makes a difference.

Tim, is this the kind of distributor you have? I cannot see a way for the kit to fit! Yet to open the package in case I need to do a swap....

Thanks, they told me I bought the wrong one.

Waiting to see what can be done.

I bought it based on an 843cc engine with a Marelli cap I missed the small print below with model numbers as I bought it on the phone, didn't see it.

Looks like you would have to totally strip your distributor to fit the magnet ring to the cam. That is if a kit is available. I'm not sure it would be worth it.
Maybe get a second distributor that you can get a kit for that is easy to fit from the top.

The guys brought me to this one here:

Stripping it's own to get the ring on wasn't happening. Wouldn't have been worth it at all. I've not been let down by points and condenser as of yet so if it doesn't work out I'm quite happy to stay original. If I can cut out possible issues though it maybe worth it.

Hi Gav, see photo of my dizzy. The engine is a 903 gbc from 1972. The dizzy is a Marelli S118a. As I said earlier it might be worth speaking to Peter at Ignition car parts. I nearly gave up after receiving 2 wrong sets but when I got the right one it’s made a great difference.

How do you remove the auto advance mechanism in order to fit the magnet ring to the square cam?

I like the idea of these kits but only if it is simple to go back to points and condenser if kit goes wrong.

I saw one of these kits fitted to a four cylinder engine recently and there was a 2 degree ignition timing difference between cylinders 1 and 4 which is not terrible. The magnets must be made quite accurately.

Thanks for that! Looks like it could be a pig to fit with the advance mechanism
