I have a 1.4 petrol manual 500L.. My third new Fiat in a row, and I thought I had cracked it and that the dealer, Motorvogue, Northampton were excellent!
How wrong was I!! Here we go with a terrible product and I have made a mistake with a new model!
Our problem is the gearbox.. It intermittently does not go into 5th or 6th gear and occasionally jumps out of reverse. It has been back to the garage and was resident for three weeks during which time two techs said there was nothing wrong, and two said there was. Things were changed, plates and cables?? And it is back with us. Slightly improved but still evident. It went back with 500 miles on the clock and has now done 1200 in the four months we have had it. To add insult to injury the rear fog/reverse light is full with water.
Finally..........mpg figures quoted by Fiat must have been conjured by the Northampton Clown!!
Any others had similar issues??
So far Motorvogue have been very unhelpful and seem to be avoiding us!!

Personally at this point I would be contacting FIAT UK,

( I found them quite helpful with enquires regarding my new punto )

ask them for an Engineers appraisal,
sent from Slough !

I had a friend years ago with a dodgy Vauxhall - this was the ONLY way it got fixed.

otherwise You'll have to go the legal route of "unfit for purpose",
good luck , AND let us know how it goes,

Charlie

You need to pursue this with FIAT direct as suggested. Our gearbox on the same model is faultless but I find it slips into sixth easier with a slight pressure applied to the right as you move the lever.

It has never jumped out of reverse.

As for MPG - well TBH we don't have an issue, ours is more economical than I expected, we achieve around 48mpg on a longish run which is not outstanding but not too bad.

You will never achieve the published/advertised figures as they are tested in conditions very different to what day to day running is like. All manufacturers tend to over state what their cars will actually achieve.

But if yours s really bad again it's an issue for the dealer to look at and sort and again FIAT if they fail to address it.

The trouble is, when you buy a new car you rightly expect it to be pretty near perfect. Small things perhaps, but not the gearbox.

Actually, the light filling with water would annoy me just as much.

Fiat: you can sell problematic cars for below average prices and limp along as a manufacturer, gradually losing market share, or you can sell at higher prices than the competition, as you are trying to do, if the product is comprehensively excellent, including the back up.

Choose!
